New to the site, great place! I"ve been looking for a site like this for awhile. I'm installed many low-cost IP PTZ on other homes (for friends) but now I'm looking to do my own system on a new build. More on that in a later post. I had planned on wiring RG6 with 18/2 to each of my camera locations and I see the RG59-18/2 Siamese suggestion from UMDRanger in another thread. It doesn't seem cost prohibitive and would save some wire pulling, my questions are will this affect signal quality? Are there any benefits other than the runs? Finally, where might one source a 1000ft of this? I'm in Canada btw and shipping from the online US retailers is cost prohibitive.

RG59-18/2 will be fine for residential cameras. I'm guessing it will be better then the RG6 you have been running unless your RG6 happens to be solid copper (which is special order from my supplier).
Any electrical supply house should be able to get it with no problems. If they won't sell to a non tradesman you can try the local home improvement store. But I don't know if they would special order or not.

thanks for the reply. I'll check into the electrical supply store and see what they can order. I did find a 1000ft roll online for $216 plus $30 shipping, which I think is not bad. The cameras (IP) I've put in are mostly the Trendnet TV-IP400. Bad picture quality, terrible night... no make that zero night time capability. But they do have the very basic PTZ and provide a streaming picture, not great cameras though...
