A good article from EC2.0:

Google earth provides the high-resolution aerial, high-quality satellite imagery, road, building, streets and everywhere on the planet and people can see those views through computer. DVR is name as Digital Video Recorder. DVR uses a digital way to read and record the multimedia and also combine the function of DVD and STB. DVR is different from others that we used before. We can see the online movies through internet and we can also record it while we are looking. One great function is that we use DVR through internet that means we may have interaction with it and we can use online teaching and online ordering. Another important function for Mobile DVR is it can let the user see the film synchronously as the place you choose, we call that “Time Shift”. Mobile Digital Video Recorder allows people automatically record the environment information in the real-time. The digital format can let people label the segment of the movie clips easily and it also makes the search technology faster. Google earth DVR is a new killer application for the business.
Google earth treat as the GIS monitor map system and you can play the video file recorded from the Mobile DVR with the Google earth at the same time. According to the combination of the technologies, you can monitor and realize something happened everywhere in the remote place. DVR Earth provides a low-Cost of delivery management and transportation system, except GPS tracking route and live vehicle camera’s video. Google earth DVR ideally deploy to heavy-duty and passenger vehicle and protect your assets and people in the business processes. The company also can track and monitor their business processes and transportation and give them more precise information. The transportation company such as FedEx or UPS can cooperate with Google and this technology can easy detect the convenience routes for the transportation. There are following some real cases: a company, Streetblimps, with a fleet of 80 mobile billboards, has incorporated Google Earth into its GPS monitoring. The technology allows advertisers to detect a truck’s location within 50 feet, enabling them to track their mobile campaigns in real time. It is the first mobile billboard company to incorporate the technology. Now, a good R&D Technology , the mobile surveillance platform designer and provider in Taiwan, also cooperate with Google and plans to offer DVR Earth to anyone who needs. However, the mobile security and privacy in the remote environment are the important issue in this application.
Similarly, John Hanke of Google has announced a new feature for Google Maps. It’s only available in five cities in the United States (San Francisco, Miami, Denver, Las Vegas, New York) and in Taipei, Taiwan and London in the UK. You have to have the latest Flash (version 9 or newer) to use this new feature. It lets you view street level views based on photos taken by a car driving along the streets. The photos are very high resolution, so you actually can have up to 16x zoom to let you pan and get closer to things at the ground level for a location.
Amazon had previously done something similar, called A9 Maps, where they had street level photos. But, the interactivity and zooming level of Google’s implementation seems to make it more appealing. Chances are Google has a better chance of making this popular. No word yet on whether this directly or indirectly has to do with the announcement of licensing Stanford’s robotic car technology to make 3D buildings.
Google also can get some benefits from this technology. Google Street is a street view for the Google maps but now it is only available for five big cities. Those street views are based on the photos taken by a car driving along the main street. You can use Google maps to pick up a location and see the zoom-in or zoom-out screenshots on the street. This is very interesting application but take all the photos along the streets still a hard problem for the Google Street. According to Mobile DVR technology, Google has a chance to add the photos or videos automatically and this will make Google Street more popular for people to use.
