I'm not sure if the Sprite hard drive replacement is the same as the Eco 4, but I replaced the drive in an Eco 4 for my father-in-law, and it was VERY easy. I wrote up the instructions over at Cocoontech. (new user, and I can't post a link yet).
Just do a search for Eco4, and you should find the step-by-step as the 2nd one down in the search results.

Which model DM Sprite? You may have to open the case to see which motherboard it has.

Can you post step by step (stupid proof  ) how to formated the drive and install the operating system and firmware,I have xp on my pc

To upload the software to a new hard drive the DVR must be connected to a switch/router. You must know the IP address of the Digital Sprite. Consult the manual if you don't know. The menu for the DS seems similar to the new DS2A.
Do a search "Dedicated Micros hard drive" in this forum.
