This may have been covered before but I am confused on what makes a megapixel camera and what a Analog camera with a network connection

We were talking about the actii 1431 I thought it was megapixel and actually found an ad that calls it a 1.3 megapixel camera but the actual manual does not reference mega pixel at all. I also have seen someplace that the lens quality is at least as important as the number of megapixels

The camera your talking about is not a megapixel camera. The maximum resolution of that camera is Full D1 (720x480 in NTSC, 720x576 in PAL).

Megapixel means, very simply, 1 million or more pixels. Technically that requires a minimum resolution of 1024x1024, or equivalent in a different aspect ratio. A 1280x960 "widescreen" camera, for example, would also be a megapixel (about 1.2MP). 1024x768 (VGA resolution) doesn't qualify as megapixel, although it is pretty high resolution for a CCTV camera.

If you're unsure, look at the camera's specs - it should list vertical and horizontal resolution (like, 1280x960). Multiply the two, and you have your answer.

D1 (720x480) is actually less than 0.35MP.
