I am installing a IP system and am not clear on what cable will be the best when I look at cat6 or 5e there is plenum and other factors to consider can anyone help me whit what I am looking for. I will be running a gigabit system Avigilon. Thanks

If you can get cat6 for around the same price as cat5 use it. You only need plenum if required by electric code. Plenum is a lot more expensive.

Do I want solid or stranded? Runs will be no more than 80' some 40'

You want solid conductors.

Also best practice is to punch the ends down on jacks and use patch cables from the jacks to the devices versus crimping plugs on the ends and plugging straight into the devices.

Do you know if you are running the cables through a plenum? The plenum rating is a life safety issue, So whether you need plenum rated cable or not is much more important then Cat5e vs. Cat6.
