DS2 password reset

   ( >> )

I have a few of the old dedicated micros DS2s and someone has set a user password. When I press the menu button to get to the menu I see a prompt that says use the cam keys to enter the password. Dedicated micros said there isn't a default password and I'd have to send it to a repair shop to get the password reset. Does anyone know how to reset the password? Its out of warranty so I wouldn't be afraid of opening it up.

One more question on a totally different area. I have tried using a serial cable to connect to the DS2 but nothing ever happens. I have tried pressing esc three times then enter. I've tried every connection speed and still no luck. Do you have to use a special cable?

Please let me know and thanks :)

I wouldn't post this normally but the greedy bast*rds at DM, well it wasn't actually DM, it was Gardiners as DM wanted it back through an agent, wanted £450 to sort this password thing out.

Enough rambling, after many phone calls and searching we found it,

The backdoor password is 613126

If you only have a 4 channel sprite 2 then use the remote control to input the password.

I smell a rip off over this

I have used that on a few now. 4 channel, 16 channel etc. They stopped doing the 4 channel some years ago.

It may only work then for the ones with the DVT37 mainboard. DM say the password is written into one of the flash ROM's and not on the hard drive. That is why it has to go back lol

Don't quote me on this but I have been told several times that if you phone DM after 5.30 you get transferred to their tech department in the States and they are more helpful.

I have hyperterminal'd and telnetted into these things so there must be a command to "lose" the passwords

I couldn't tell you which mainboard I have. Last time I popped the case open was over three weeks ago. I want to say its the same as yours, DVT37, but I'm not 100% sure. I've upgraded to the newest firmware version, 3.x. Do you think they might have changed it in the upgrade?

In order to telnet and serial connect don't you have to enable something in the configuration?

Hi we had the same problem with the serial cable not working.
It it really simple you need to use a serial crossover cable.
Instead of buying one you can just swop the cables on pins 2 and 3 of the serial connector.
just in case you don't have this info these are the settings you need:
Bits per second=19200
Data bits=8
parity=none
stop bits=1
flow control=none
hope this helps

that password only works on non netview ds2's without cd writer.
spoke to dm loads of times and they say the code doesnt exist. lol
if you know how to change a ds2 harddrive you will know how to wipe passwords

I may be able to help with passwords on DS2 DM's pm me to find out how

Changing the hard drive doesn't always get rid of the password on a DS2 because with some models they also store it on a chip on the mother board
