DVR Hard Disk Problem

I was wondering if there was a program that lets me read my dvr hard disk from a computer other than the program that came with it.
Reason is recently had a theft and the dvr I bought is not letting me se the video that is supposedly on the disk. So i removed the disk and connected it to my laptop, but windows doesn't recognize the disk and won't let me read it. So I was wondering if there was some kind of program that would let me read the disk through windows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

if you can't see it on the dvr, you probably won't be able to see it when connected to a computer either.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the software preloaded on the machine. Is there any software that you know of that will let me read the hard disk from windows.
