DVR PTZ Control

Hi,
What do you need to control a PTZ dome camera with a DVR i got the AVTECH 780W i set the ID and put DATA+ to RS485-A and DATA- to RS485B opened the remote view software clicked PTZ control but it didnt work?

Interesting question: how do you confirm a RS-422 / 485 signal? Both its presence and its meaning.

(Please don't post the answer in the dealer's only thread.) :?

Convert the signal to RS-232 and put it into a PC serial port. Then do a port capture. That would allow confirmation and let you see the protocol it's using.

I found out its VCL protocol so i cant use DVR now because it doesnt support that protocol i've just bought an RS485 to RS232 converter but wont be here for a week i dont know if the dome works 100% yet i did connect it directly to my RS232 port i knew i wouldnt be able to do anything but i thort it might recieve a load of gibberish then i would know it was kinda of working but it doesnt recieve anything is that what its supposed to do or is my dome at fault?

You could always use Sennetech to convert from one manufacturers code to another (e.g. Kalatel to VCL).

Thanks for the link. However, they don't list any prices. What do these converters typically cost?
