Just wondering why all DVR software states that they horizontal resolution is 400+ lines (does it mean that it isn't worth buying 480 or 560 lines cameras if used with PC DVR ?)

Because you don't find any CCTV cameras that put out enough of an image to bother with 1024x768.

The Higher resolution cameras do make a difference on a PC Dvr.
