All,
As mentioned in a previous thread - a thread that made no sense to me at the time but has since shown it's true intention; anyway getting back to this topic - I will be making much needed improvements here early next year.
With that said. I want this thread to be your wish list. What changes in functionality or topics or content would you like to see here?
Something I already plan on is a new skin. This one's getting kinda old. Also, I would like to recruit additional moderators.
Unfortunately, not all suggestions can be implemented but if something is mentioned more than once, then it would certainly get more consideration.
So, wadda ya want to see here? Sorry lap dances are technically impossible over the web :D

I wouldn't mind "Moderating" here at all. I personally think Rory should be forced to moderate since he leads the league in Posts, ERA, and WHIP.

I would like to see:
Avatars
Custom Titles
Picture gallery
Chat

Agreed, Photos would be excellent. Maybe even a small FTP upload site where people can trade technical support papers, etc.

Yeah, and maybe make the home page more of a portal. With info, resources, and FAQ's available right there. Kinda like my other digs:

A chat area, or IRC channel would be nice.
A files area or upload area would also be good.
If a photo attach feature could be added that would be great as well, maybe even something with a resizer built in or puts in thumbnails to the real photo, as I have seen in the past some very large photos come through... :)

Yeah, yah know :-)
Okay I have an idea, how about a links list, of all dealers web sites that have StoreFronts, storefronts only!, so the DIY and others can go buy products. And also, do this per location, in other words if im localed in california I can browser by state, or country, and find a dealer in my area with a storefront.
I can do this if you want with ASP on my web server and you can just link to it or use the img tag to include it in any HTML page, in other words doesnt have to be pHp. I also have a billion other ideas but first things first :-)
Basically, How about we make this the ultimate source for CCTV. I even have a photo gallery I can finish off to work for the forum members.

I have seen many products mentioned here and many links, but I have to comment that it would be handy to be able to attach an image or a file to a post without having to create a FTP first, I realize that this means more storage for the site but I feel it would be a very useful feature.
larry - 23 Sep 2005, 10:19 pm
Hey these are some good ideas.
Like Rory, I too would like to make this the utimate source for CCTV information. We gotta lot of work to do.
Avatars and Custom Titles - I will have the designer include these into his design.
Picture Gallery. I think Phpbb has add ons to do this. If not, we can use Rory's code to add this.
Regional links - Again I can have the designer add a placeholder for this.
Chat - I can look for a Java app. IRC is better on a separate server, since this forum is still on shared hosting, this is not something I'll look into now.
Manuals area sounds doable, I'll have another talk with the designer. I think he will be able to retire after this. :D
C7 in CA that xmfan site is nice. Definately something to strive for.

Just a reminder  Couple months ago I asked you via PM about other possibilities to access cctvforum content. What I actually meant was a quicker way to know about new threads appearing (not just about new posts in existing threads).
That time you mentioned RSS feed module. I'm still very interested. Please dont forget about me :)
larry - 02 Oct 2005, 02:20 pm
Hey Thomasz,
No I have not forgotten about you and that will definately be added too.
Trent - 11 Oct 2005, 03:49 pm
As a newbie I would like to see what Rory suggested:
A forum, or atleast a sticky somewhere, that has nothing but links to reputable websites where one can purchase items from.
From what I have read people are willing to suggest items for a particular application, but when it comes to where to buy and for how much, that part of the conversation seems to end up happening via a PM. Why is that?
spytown - 21 Oct 2005, 05:38 pm
I have one for you. How about integrating "SKYPE" into this forum like EBAY has it. this way if people need to speak with one another they can really "TALK" here.
Jasper - 22 Oct 2005, 04:17 pm
That is a great idea. You should try that out on your own website. I think that is a good idea in a sales environment.
I don’t know how well that would work here though because most people are here to share information with many people who frequent these forums. Probably not a need for many one on one or conference type conversations.
That kind of defeats the whole purpose of the forum. But I could be wrong, maybe a thread should be started and ask peoples opinions :?:
spytown - 22 Oct 2005, 05:37 pm
in the forum you can see the other members who are online. Therefore if you need to speak with that person immediately why have to wait and post and wait for response and wait, and wait, when you can have your answer in moments.
rory - 22 Oct 2005, 07:39 pm
well i got the Skype API and its pretty easy to work with ...
i was thinking more in the lines of working with it on a video audio level though, for conferencing.

Reg'd users only should have access to forums no Guests
When registration is being completed it should be mandatory to put at least your country, makes it handy if your trying to find someone in same country as yourself
How about Country Threads, just like USA etc + Europe ?
Thomas - 12 Jan 2006, 10:26 am
Locking the forum to only registered users screws over end users. We have a locked section of the forum for dealer only discussions.
rapid - 14 Jan 2006, 02:09 pm
Neutech makes a good point about stating your country. This should be a mandatory field which would allow users to provide other users with pertinent recommendations, dealers, and equipment locally available to them.
Thomas - 15 Jan 2006, 10:54 pm
If they want such info, they will fill in that field.
