PTZ panning above horizon 90 degrees

One thing I noticed on my new install PTZ cam is that you cannot zoom in on the horizon. From wide angle to zoom, it goes to somewhat below the original center of the screen. It is mounted at about 20' elevation and the road out front 150' away is at about 10' elevation. So it is at least 10' above the road. Before you could not zoom in on cars but now I shimmed the wall mount so it tips the bottom up some. You can zoom to a car height but you cannot lookup to say yards further out.

There may be a way to also shim the camera itself in the mount so it tilts up some so you can zoom farther out.

I liked the other thread about mounting one sideways... M-B

Hi,

Yes, I have shimmed the actual camera housing up ever so slightly in the mount to achieve horizon and above viewing. Had an exact application and the customer said, "hey, why can't I see the horizon"? I said I would be right back, made the modification, and now my customer can see the horizon 360 degrees. :D I used a sliver of a match book cover. In no way affected the operation of the cam otherwise.

Mounting the PTZ sideways would make control very difficult; especially if you are trying to follow a moving object or person. One possible solution is the Pelco Spectra IV SE Horizon Series Dome Systems, which can tilt 18 degrees above the horizon. Here is a link to their specs:

This is why at airports they still use pan tilt heads, sometimes a dome ptz is not always the best

Our camera would also work in your application.

Hmm, after looking up "Titan Speed Domes" on Google product search and then falling over from the sticker shock, I've decided that looking above the horizon is perhaps not so important to us.

Or maybe we might try that matchbook cover solution.
