Im using an elevated photography set up and have a 12v pan and tilt unit atop a 70ft mast, I have a Canon 40d at one end and a Laptop with Canons utility open at the other. My problem is that I can take a couple of shots at the most but as soon as i power up the pan and tilt unit, the utility shuts down on the laptop. I have tested everything away from the pan and tilt and it works fine but as soon as i introduce it within 5 ft of the camera the utility closes. Anyone got any ideas how I can overcome this problem?

are you using usb ?

Yes Im using an ethernet to usb adapter at both ends, i have just purchased shielded ethernet and shielded ends but am now wondering whether i need to earth either end using the earthing strand within the cable or will just crimping on the shielded ends, ensuring a good connection does the job?
