I purchased a sony SSC-DC374 and I ran a coax cable to my PC. I have an HP Media Center M7160n. I also have an older hauppauge WinTV card.

Anyway, I am trying to figure out how to configure the media center card to work with this camera if possible. If not can I use the hauppauge card?

should have.........plug it in and select av in on the software and you can record.

hardly cuttinge edge but once your bitten by the cctv bug :)

The hauppauge has s-video, but I have to run this off of coax. We have a horse that is gonna have a baby any day and I am trying to get this done so I can catch it.

Anyway, is there anyway I could use the onboard conexant falcon II card to do the same thing? I was reading the camera specs and it said it was NTSB, so should I be able to do this with any NTSC capable card?

The hauppage has s-video in , just use a rca to s-video converter plug.

It also has an onboard pvr, records in mpeg2 IIRC, heavy on the hdd.

Do any of them come with recording software?

If so use that one.

You may just need a BNC-RCA Adaptor for the card if it has an RCA input.
Optionally you can buy a BNC-RCA then an RCA-S-Video.

Course easiest IMO would be to buy a GeoVision GV250 2-channel card one time, should work in that PC if there is a free slot. Its inexpensive and you get the full DVR software.

I am trying not to use the hauppauge because it is old. I mean I can if I have to, but would rather not. I think I bought it back in 99 or 2000.

I don't know exactly where you're plugging in the camera. If you're connecting it to the F connecter on the back of the PC which, is for cable tv or antanna, the PC won't recognize the camera. You should use the RCA video inputs on the back or the front of the PC then, your video programs should recognize the camera. The HP Media Center PC is set up for viewing and recording TV programs.

I think that's the answer. I have a Media Center so I have a little unerstanding of the PC.

I just wanted to add one more thing. I'm not sure but, this is something you could look into.
If your Media Center is like mine, you could hook up an RF Modulater between the camera and the F connecter. Then you could use the TV or Media Center program by setting it to channel 3. From there, you could use the Media Center Program to Schedule the camera for times of day, burn DVD,s and so on.

Thats exactly what I would like to do. I will check into that also.

Sorry to be a pain, but I was looking at the rf modulator's and I wanna make sure I have got this right...

My camera has a BNC connector out, so I am going from BNC to f-conn at the camera, then at the other end get an adapter to go from f-conn to rca and then thru the rf modulator?

You need a female BNC for connecting to the camera and a BNC male to RCA addapter. That's if you have female BNC connectors on each end of the cable. If they are f connecters,you will need one f to bnc and one f to rca. The thing is, regular cable for TV is not the best to use for CCTV. You should use RG 59 Solid copper core with 95 per cent copper brade for sheelding.

I dont know those cards, or the system, but BNC on the coax/camera end (did you run RG59 Copper center and braid?), then BNC-RCA Adaptor at the RF Modulator end.

OK I think I got it.

I ran RG-6, because I had a 1000' foot roll sitting here and I am going about 350' to the barn. I already have the camera end set up, f-BNC so it is good to go. Tomorrow I will get an F-RCA and an RF modulator and hopefully I can record this horse having a baby.

I can see that once I get started with this I am gonna have to buy more cameras lol.

Worked like a charm, I picked up an RF Modulator and ran it to my pc and to my TV. The wife is finally happy, well at least for tonight :?
