Anyone have a good idea or source of supply for a good cable/wire lable kit? Thanks,

the most versatile labeler I've come across is the P-touch by Brother. you can not only label cables but also anything else you want. if you get the white back ground on the ribbon you can simply fold it and wrap it around the wire at the fold, or use wire tags laced to the wire with the p-touch label stuck to the wire tag. very neat and proffessional looking. hope this helps. :)

(obviously, you want the handheld unit  )
just to show the printer. you should be able to find it in any office supply store.

You got that right!!

I have the PT-65, and it has saved my ass quite a few times.

I use the PT-65 everyday. I like it. I was disappointed that I had to buy a PT-1180 during one job because the PT-65 didn't have clear tape available.
I'd say these are fine for faceplates. But not the best option for cable labels. But they work ok on cables if "label flags" will work for you.

The next cabling job I do that has more the 48 cables will give me the excuse I am looking for to buy the new PT-1650. It's a true datacom/telecom labeler.

If I was looking for the next step in mass label making I would be looking at the Brady TLS 2200.

We use a little portable unit that prints on heat shrink tubing. You slide it over the coax or 2-cond and heat it on the wire. It prints on different sizes of shrink tube cartridges. They look great and stay on forever. I did a service call on a job we installed in 1995, and it looked like it was installed yesterday.
