hi, im a complete new user to any sort of technical info, so il try and explain what i need help with.

Im using a cop security dvr which is linked to all my tvs, and im attempting to access it via my computer. the company which installed the system did a half ass job, so im trying to finish it. its linked to my router so now im trying to access it through netviewer on my computer, its plugged into the LAN port on the dvr. Im not interested in accessing it via the internet, just on my computer but the message i keep getting in 'socket connect fail' etc etc.

AV PORT: 5000
COMMAND PORT: 5001

AVI CODEC: MICROSOFT VIDEO 1
VIDEO TYPE: NTSC OR PAL

can anyone please help me!

you sure youy using right software? i have a cop also and it uses something called oh just got mind blank, avviewer maybe or something like that..............


ok i remembered what it was ajp player is the software

can you ping the device.

Some of these devices you can access through internet explorer.

ie h**p://192.168.0.200

You could try that.

Also is the device and your router on the same IP range. most of these dvr's don't use DHCP so you manually have to assign an IP to the DVR.

Are you using a router or going directly to the computer?
If you are using a router be sure to forward the port & ip address.
If you are going directly into the computer be sure to use a crossover cable.

yea im using it via a router. Using a program called netviwer. This is the thing, the guy who set it up said i may need a fixed ip so it could use the same one, how can i do this?

you are getting lan and wans mixed up, or some of the info here is. if it is all on the router side, as in inside your home or office, it is on the lan, and should have an ip address that is like 192.168.x.x or 10.0.x.x.

i am not familiar w/ your particular device, but many dvrs i have seen let you put in the info for it to be a static ip, just put it up high so the dhcp server in your router doesn't try to give out its ip address. there should be a networking area in the menus.

being on the lan side, there would be no reason to forward ports, that would be only if you were going to be viewing the data from the wan (internet) side from outside your location.
