newbie here...has anybody tried using the gview pda viewer and get it to work?

On the pda login screen it asks for the ip address username, pass and port... if I put port 3550 in (the geo default) it seems to locks up the pda till I terminate the tcp in the geo software.

if I don't put a port number in I get a message server closed any ideas?

Restart "webcam server" on your GV machine. You can also do this by hitting the "W" key on your keyboard once or twice.

A dialog screen should pop-up. Look for the server setup Option JPEG and "make jpeg files" these are used for your PDA so check this option. If you're not generating jpegs' you'll get a "server closed error" on your pda. Set quality to 100%

On your PDA just leave the port blank and enter the local network IP of your gv machine. Usually it's something like 192.168.0.10* and your user name and password.

Then try connecting again and it should work.

Dont forget to put 80 as the port in the pda also.

Is that what the feature of creating the JPEG files is for?

I thought you needed that enabled in order to save jpegs locally when browsing over the internet with a remote viewer. I guess I can disable that feature then if it is only for a PDA?

Mine was set to the lowest setting, which would explain why the pictures I posted on the forum were so bad.

Oh, you mean streaming JPEG pics are what you are receiving as your video feed?

The java applet creates/updates the jpeg images in the Geo HTTP Server's WebTemp Folder. As it updates it, it also dispays the image. I set up a Java Script version, but currently still relies on the Applet to be running somewhere in order to update the images, but that will change. The speed and quality produced by the Applet is not worth using, unless you have no other choice - such as with the PDA/Pocket PC/Firefox/Apple.

The regular ActiveX is different, and would be the preffered method for speed and quality, or just use that other program ... :wink:

Actually, this works great with my Treo 700w cell phone. This is the best feature (for me) about the geovision card in general!

That phone looks pretty large how are you carrying it? Breifcase, belt clip?

I saw a review on it and they were saying the display though rated at 320x240 actually looked like 240x240, but they weren't sure :roll:

I am using the boxwave.com metal case. No cases seem to have any type of antenna protection.

The display is definately 240x240. The gview program works but the bottom of the screen is cut off.

At the very least, I can log in & change cameras, but everything below the camera drop down list is missing (no image, full screen, etc).

All I can say is it works & when on the Evdo (broadband) it works really nicely. It is even semi usable at slower speeds (1xrtt).

It lets me view the "Dog Cam" fairly nicely. I would take a jpg but I cant figure out how to do it (I will try though).
