I am interested in two cameras one has a varifocal lens 4-9 mm the other is 9-22 mm which of these is better for long distance viewing.

The second varifocal lens, will give you much more detail on objects/subjects further away (22mm being the max setting) from the camera location, however will also give a narrower field of view.
