I'm putting together a system for my father in law and know very little about CCTV. He checked with the local pro who, when he finally returned the call three weeks later, set him a price for what appears to be a very basic setup, that wont do the job of over $8000. I need a day/night, weatherproof, dome camera with High res.(480 lines or better) variable focal lens up to 9mm, auto iris, infra red preferred (due to very low light, needs to catch someone messing with his equiptment) with temp rating going below 0 degrees F. I also need a stand alone 4channel DVR with real time recording on each channel and either usb or cd rw backup, a flat panel monitor, and cables for connecting and power for under $2000. suggestions?

Easily done for under 2k. You have many options to choose from here. I am curious as to why it has to be a dome camera though? Is that a preference, or a requirement?

Depending where you are located, there are many installation companies in here that can help you. You should have no problem getting a decent stable system for 2k.

For where he wants to put it he figured it would the least obvious the installation he can do himself so the equiptment is the only requirement. he is looking to start with 1 camera and add to it. the lower the price the better.
