I need some info or even types and makes of cameras that can capture a view (some mountains and sea - nothing closeup)about 50 miles away, camera will be mounted on a roof and will be unacessable in the future so needs to be reliable

Have about £200 to £300 for the camera maybe a little more

cheers.

It sounds to me that a megapixel camera would be the way to go. Of course it have to be an IP based camera. Take a look at companies such as IQEye and Arecont.

This one is an IQEye

StarDot is another IP camera vendor.

How are you planning to recover the images?

Was thinking of one of those boxes that use normal cctv cameras and make them avaliable over networks or worst case scenario it can be used through the dvr.

We have plenty of cable RG59 shotgun, and connectors so it would make sence to have a camera that uses this type of cable.

We are still intrested in the IP cams.

A video server is normally not very cost-effective if you are starting from scratch.

Your camera choice should be based on the resolution and frame rate you need, less so on having suitable cable available!
