    Actually they discontinued the Sanyo DSR-3009, it was replaced by the DSR-3709 which is pretty much the same thing as far as operation except it now has a USB option for CDR, and can do telemetry control via Coax of the new SANYO PTZ cameras and Pelco Coax control.

    Answer Yes they are standard IDE drives in the Sanyo DSRs. The Sanyo recorders have 2 drive bays 1 is configured as a Master the Other as a Slave. Make sure if you do this to note which IDE connector the Master drive is connected to first and put the new drives in with the drives jumpered out accordingly. For the Sanyo recorders it is better to stick to 7200RPM drives if you can, they have used Hitachi and Maxtors from what I've seen. If you haven't done so update the firmware from their web site first at www.sanyocctv.com under downloads. One additional advice: If the DVR is still under warranty (Most Sanyo recorders are 3 yrs partrs & labor) upgrading the drives yourself will void the warranty.[/b][/u]

    Crimp will ensure a better connection than twisted on BNC connectors, if the connections get a bit of rough handling they will hold up better.

    S-Video v Composite BNC

    SVIDEO = avg. 400/ 420 horizontal lines of resolution, Composite = 240/ 250 horizontal lines of resolution, So if the image going in is from a hi resolution camera 400+ horizontal lines of resolution then there is certainly some benefit in using it for the connection to the DVR if it exists. And as Rory said you will notice the difference in the live picture. DataAve's comment is good note, all cables are not created equal.
  6. 63.196.37.123 is a DSR-3506 6 cams 63.196.37.124 is a DSR-3709 9 cams Compression is MJPEG, connection is ADSL @ 128Kbps shared for both. A bigger up pipe will give a better refresh rate up to 2.4Mbps. FYI, if you set read inteval to 5 and click "set" your browser will try to pull the images at a faster rate. Is this what is meant by "image grab"?

If camera power supply and monitor/ recording equipment are powered by separate AC power circuits there is always a potential for ground differential. Example different buildings; sometimes different floor or room in same building. Also some video distribution amplifiers have built-in ground loop isolation, just look around there are many type products to solve this...

    Sanyo DSR-3506* vs DSR-3009*

    DSR- 3709, and 3716 have RS-485/ RS-422 connection, they do not have RS-232 like the DSR-3009 and 3016. The DSR-3506 has neither RS-485 or RS-232, remote control is only via network connection or a resistive ladder remote.

    I not be understanding. If more than one camera is viewed on the Analog monitor with the 3009/3016, the display is NOT real-time? Thx. When viewing multi-screen images, 4,9, or 16 split screen on the older Sanyo Units (DSR-3009/3016) live the view was multiplexed. This means that the camera images are being slapped onto the screen sequentially one field at a time by channel. So viewing in 16 screen split each individuat channel is actually refreshing 3.75 times a second. (30 Frames per second equals NTSC real-time, Multiplexers and Analog monitors use interlaced video "fields" 1 Frame = 2 fields, 30 Frames = 60 fields. So 60 fields per second divided by 16 channels I get 3.75) This is not always apparent at a glance, but if you watch it for a while or loop the same channel to all 16 inputs it becomes obvious. When I said the split screen views on the DSR-3506, 3709, and 3716 were no longer multiplexed I meant that all 6,9, or 16 channels in a given live view are refreshing at a rate of 60 Fields per second (or 30 Frames per second) meaning real time viewing. This can make a big difference in some applications.

On DSR-3009 and DSR-3016 when units were accessed by network the Analog monitor would change as the remote user switched views. * When viewing live cameras on Analog monitor in multi display cameras are real-time 30fps view. 3009/3016 live multi screen was multiplexed. * The DSR-3506, DSR-3709, and DSR-3716 can all be registered, viewed, and remotely managed with the VA-SW5000 utility software also the DSR-3709 and DSR-3716 have telemetry control (PTZ) coax, RS-485, RS-422
