  1. Hi, I have an LTS NVR LTN8716-P8, which is 16 channel with a 8 channel POE switch built in. I have just ordered a SUNBA 405-D20x PTZ cam, I know I will be able to control the camera from the NVR or Computer, but wondering if anyone knows since my system is fully IP based, can I use a USB CCTV joystick controller connected to the NVR or any fully IP based controller they recommend. I found one online but it was double the price of the camera. I have an old RS485 joystick from my previous system , but not sure if there is anyway to use that. I'm thinking no, since my new camera locations have a single cat 5 to each, and the new cam has no 485 wires on it . any help would be great, This is my own system and I enjoy learning and toying with it, I am an electrician by trade so I have some knowledge of the stuff but need some experts here to help guide me on this one. Thanks in advance
  2. Hi All, Looking at changing my system over from analog to fully IP based. I was looking at some equipment from LTS. I am concerned since I don't see much about it online here. I am also starting to see that possibly the Hiki DS-2cd2032 could be the same as the CMIP8232. I noticed some posts about different origins causing problems and was trying to find out if anyone had used the CMIP8232s. As a quick basis before hitting all the info on what I am looking to do, lets say 16 channel NVR 100 MBPS with 8 Port POE built in. I would like to stick with 3 MP cameras and looked at at listed part number above as a choice. Any advice would be welcomed on those brands. the NVR was an LTS brand as well. Thanks

    power supply question

Hi all, I just hooked up a LTS brand Ul listed 18 channel 10 Amp power supply 12 V dc. Its model DV-AT1210A-D10 I attached 3 fixed cams to it and 1 ptz, all were working previously from independant 12v plug in power supply's. upon powering up the new power supply, all 18 green led lights inside blink, reguardless of weather there is a cam terminated on them or not. I checked the fuses and they are good. Digital multimeter shows no voltage output on the 12volt terminals . Does anyone know off hand what the bliinking led signifies? could the polarity be reversed? Maybe I answered my own question.. I am thinking the thing is shot. It is a brand new unit. Any Help would be great.

    Help with License plate capture

Brandon, Thanks for the links, I am printing them and then I will mess around with what I have. I am in the United States in New York. that tutorial looks great I am excited to set up my cam and see what results I get. I guess an Indoor bench test maybe in my garage first to get the settings figured out and then I can try it from a temp location outside. As for lighting an Idea I had in the back of my head. I was going to use the DVR's alarm contacts to provide a clousure and power a light when the camera needed it via motion sensor. Not sure how effective it would be but it's another thing I will test out.

    Help with License plate capture

WOW, I didn't know my Question was going to start a potential war. Fist off I am doing this as a hobby ,Second I am a Licensed Master Electrican not a half wit, more like a 2/3rds wit. Processing the plate text is not necessary, it would be cool, but for now not necessary. At the basic level is the plate cam always recording or is it motion operated on a preset window thru the DVR? if it's always recording then to me any cam should work as long as it has a view of the strret in such a way that it is parallel with the cars. I am looking for a setup like a Red light cam , where I can set up some parameters and if a vechile passes thru it I get an image of there plate. Capturing the vechile or occupants for the most part is taken care of already with other cams already in place. I am looking to do this past the hobby for my holiday displays, I set up a large scale halloween display on my lawn and have had several items stolen and such over the past few years. I captured people and there van on cam but was unable to obtain a plate image for the police, which prompted me to think about plate capture stuff. I am not running a toll booth or boarder patrol station so the trellis over my roadway probably won't go over big the town, but would be highly effective in the capture I can see that. I can list the specs of the Speco CVC652-hz if necessary but I think you guys have looked them up already. The image that was posted with the box cam 268x zoom is the speco camera that I have. I think experience is a good thing it gives people insight on how to start to set up something or at the very least more information to research to gain a better understanding of how the system should work in the perfect world. I am looking to first grasp the concept of how the plate capture cam operates, then I would know if the cams I currently have will work for the application. Ex: do I need a fast or slow shutter speed ? Do i need Back light compensation, and if so is there different types or degrees do I need IR illuminators, or a cam with IR leds built in, or No LEDS but still night capable like USAG INC. midnight cam do i need to i nstall a large led lamp that will light up on motion and give ample lighting to the cam for the shot? I was once told by someone that the speco cam I have was used for plate capture, not sure if it has the correct specs for it.

    Help with License plate capture

All Good Questions which I have been pondering myself. I have lots of trees lining my block which are a horror for cam placement problems, but my plate cam idea is really to be used in october around halloween when the tress have thinned out. I would say I want day/ night capabilities. Distance to the plates can vary depending on where i mount my cam. The street is Parralel to my house so it makes it a bit difficult. I was thinking of mounting the cam or enclousure on a tree on my front lawn which would put me about 20 feet to the street . I would have to take some measurements to get the angles . My second option was mounting on a post just behind my fence in my back yard which would up the footage to about 60 feet. I notice in my area there are red light cams which seem to be placed a decent distance back from the intersection, and look like there up a good 10 foot or more. what is the standard if there is one ? And if i were to use the Speco cam I have laying around, I would probably need an IR illiuminator , or some other light source for the nightvision, unless the headlight or tailights are enough light for the capture.

    Help with License plate capture

Hi All, I have a home system, which I am looking to add some form of plate capture to. Can anyone recommend a good cam not looking to go full on nuts like the Extreme CCTV bad boy, just looking to have the abality to grab some plates . I currently have a speco tech CVC652-HZ which is a fixed zoom type cam I was wondering if anyone is familiar with it, or if it were capable of being used for my plate capture. Also do I need to intergrate some form of software or do I just set up motion through the cam or DVR to just record the exact location the plate will be passing through? Currently I have a 8 Channel everfocus Dvr model Ecor8D Any Help or idea's would be great.

    PTZ wiring questions

Thanks Guys. As the weather breaks I will start to run out my cables to my ptz locations. Matt you had replied to another post I had about a ptz controller suggesting a pc software based serial port idea. I have to look into this, would I then link the pc to my dvr via the serial rs232 port to operate the ptz funtions of the cams? I am alwyas searching around mostly on Ebay for a ptz joystick controller, but mayeb I wll try the trial version of the software and see if it meets my needs. Thanks again for all your Help Guys

    PTZ wiring questions

Thanks Carl. I am an electrician by trade so when looking at a diagram in the manual to one of my DVR it looks as if the data cable is run in Parallel. I can provide a unique address at each cam and match it on my dvr, so if I ran homerun cables back to the dvr/ controller and then paralleled them with a pig tail splice and put 1 set under the 485 control wires, would this work? If i am correct when using the dvr/ joystick Lets say I wanted to activate cam 1 it would send a signal out on all my wires since they are paralled but only the cam with address 1 would activate. This would also make each cam the end of line, so then would I turn on the termanition ponit of each cam? Just trying to figure out the basics. In the manual from the DVR Everfocus Ecor8D is the model I have it shows paralleling 3 cams from the dvr in a dasiy chain setup with the termination resistor on in the last unit only, which reflects what you said earlier.

    WTB Ptz controller

Thanks Guys. I will check out the website and see what they have to offer. Sorry for my super long delay in posting, just got real busy with work and haven't had much time for my cctv stuff, which is mostly a hobby for me. My cams run on Pelco D for now . 8 data, 1 stop, none on parity. Running my cheapo chineese ptz on 2400 baud rate. the fixed zoom I have is a speco which supports a much higher baud rate, and my other ptz i haven't installed yet it's a cndb-100 not sure on the baud rate, but pretty sure pelco D should work across the board for me. Joe
  13. Hi, Just looking for some help on typical ptz Rs-485 wiring. I currently have 1 PTZ camera installed and have it directly wired to my Everfocus DVR. I can control the basics thru the dvr, pan, tilt, zoom, iris. But have no tour or preset type controls. I am considering purchasing a joystick controller for it to give me more ease of use. My questions for now are 1. If I add aditional ptz cameras to my setup dio I need to run a homerun to each for ptz control from the dvr/ controller to the cam, or do I daisy chain them from one cam to the next with only 1 pair ending at the dvr/controller ? 2. when using a single or multiple ptz cameras do I need an EOL (end of line) resister. 3. are there any specs I should be looking for when searching out joystick controllers or are most the same. I have been looking at controllers with LCD displays on them. Right now I have a Chineese model Ptz installed with plans of adding a CNDB-100 which I alredy own. Any help would be great.
