  1. Thanks yall.. proper terminating did the trick! Now where's a wall to beat my head against..?
  2. Ahhh thanks guys.. Ill re-terminate them when i get to work tomorrow and see what happens.. Total rookie here lol.. Guess the first few times i did it was on cheap untwisted cable and i just made sure they lined up right and it worked.. so i assumed it was ok as long as the colors and pins matched. lol i should change the topic title to "No POE voltage drop... bad installer!" Thanks again guys... Jeff
  3. Hey and thanks! I just used a cheap little tester like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-RJ45-RJ11-Cat5-Cat6-Cable-Network-LAN-Cable-Tester-/221281648853?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33856a00d5 I didnt exactly follow the color coding of 568b but they are all connected to the same pin on each end. I have other cameras running on shorter 50' runs that i have terminated the same ways and have no problems..
  4. Hey everyone Well im having a little trouble with the length of my cable runs i guess. I have a couple ip cameras that need 6v at the device, and i use to have them run on 100' cheap cheap ebay cat5e that disintegrated where exposed to the sun, using a TP-LINK TL-SG1008P for the POE, and the cameras worked fine on what seemed to be maybe 26 gauge cat5e that wasnt even solid wire. So I got some much heftier CAT5E 24 AWG Waterproof Outdoor Direct Burial UTP Solid LAN Network Cable that seems a much thicker wire and solid, plus all the outside protection. Now i can barely get the cameras to come on with 75' cable runs. I have tested my terminations. IRs are coming on but no signal is all i get at the dvr. I thought the thicker gauge wire would be better for not loosing voltage...? Any ideas on what i should try here? Is there a certain cat5e or 6 cable anyone would recommend? I do need it to be weather proof. Any help is much appreciated and Happy Thanksgiving! Jeff

    curious about the Geovision gv-600

As far as "No such Thing" im not sure what you are talking about.. do you mean no wdm drivers? cuz there is such a thing as a hardware compression card.. Ok... does the geovision software do some of these options: Each camera having independent settings .. like i want a text alert from camera1 on tuesdays from 2am-4am and on wednesdays from 7pm-9pm with a 2 minute interval setting. Then on camera4 i want a picture text alert on saturdays from 10pm-4am with a 30 minute interval between text messages. And on camera7 i want a picture emailed to me every 1 second when there is motion on fridays from 12am-6am and also everyday from 2am-4am. And i want camera3 and camera6 to copy recordings to an ftp server. And i want camera2 to picture text 3 different people wed-sundays from 8pm to 3am with 12 second intervals between texts? Thats just a few of the things i need... Does geovision do all this?

correct power supply for 250ft run?

Thank u guys very much It is some pretty nice cable ( i think) it is supposedly 3x thicker than standard cable.. Do you guys have any recommendations for pre-made cable in case these cables arent any good? here are the cables i bought http://cgi.ebay.com/RG59U-SIAMESE-CCTV-CABLE-CAMERA-WIRE-4-250-FT-CABLES-/230535209619?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35acf82293
  7. Hi all, I have purchased some pre-made siamese 250ft rg-59u with power 18/2 and I am curious if my 12v 1amp power supplies will still work at this distance? The cameras call for 12v 300ma. Thanks for any help

    Driver problems with bt878a

Hey nimrod and thanks for trying to help.. i think this card will only give me one video stream.. I know what you are talking about when it comes to adding a camera.. i can get one to work. when i go to add a second no matter which of the 4 inputs i select from the dropdown i only get blue screen in that window and it starts affecting the output of the one that is working.. i think it is just this card.. Anyone recommend where i can get the geovision gv-600? It seems geovision is popular on this forum.. Also will i be able to use this card with my own software? Does the gv-600 have wdm drivers that will allow me to have 4 inputs? XXedit: the gv600 will only work with geovision software... thats not what i want so scratch that. Anyone know of a 4 channel card with 4 chipsets and wdm drivers thats reasonably priced???

    Driver problems with bt878a

Cool glad the ipcam went smooth. There are some nice features in BI.. Well i have tryed using the generic BT8 driver and my device mngr still only sees one video and audio input. The main problem here is i can't seem to get windows to see more than one input... I've tryed multiple drivers using btwincap... one of the drivers made the cArd literally squeel...

    Driver problems with bt878a

Thanks for all the help you guys I have never tryed this on windows7.. I just have 1 home surveillance computer and it is xp home 32 bit.. I bought this card for $50 from china and it appears with there restocking fee minus ebay fees etc.. im just gonna throw this in as a 1 camera card (cant get windows to see 4 channels, i tried the "generic bt8xx 4 comp in" driver with no tuner but still only 1 input works) and i tryed about 20 of the different drivers in btwincap. I just wish windows could see 4 inputs cause then my software blueiris could see it.. So i guess im just going to have to buy a 2nd card.. I was looking at the geovision gv-600 but have noticed it only has 1 chip as well.. i only have maybe another 100-150 to spend. Does anyone know a decent card with 4 chips that i can get D1 recordings from and atleast 7.5fps on each camera? and a WDM driver Thanks for all the help guys. And nimrod i am very expeirenced with blueiris so let me know if ya need any help.

    Driver problems with bt878a

Hey man thanks for the reply. I am actually using blue iris as my software for over 2 years now. This is the first time i have tried out a dvr card. (always used ipcams and webcams with blueiris) So im really at a loss here and really tried to understand how to get this to work on my own.. So anyways i am using blueiris and i have been able to get one channel to work.. Do you know which drivers i need to use to be able to get all 4 channels?

    curious about the Geovision gv-600

This seems like a reasonably priced card for a 4 channel system.. Will windows recognize this card and see all 4 channels? Im just curious because i might not want to use the software that comes with it, and the software i have been using will see it if windows sees it. Is there a wdm driver for this card? Also does this card have mpeg4 or h264 hardware compression? It seems a few different sites had different details on this card.. Thanks for any help
  13. Hello everyone Well it appears i have purchased a cheap card, and the software that came with it wont install correctly on a xp home 32bit system. I have been trying to find a driver for this card and have ended up with btwincap from sourceforge (i have tryed a few different drivers from btwincap but all i can ever get to work is one channel).. I honestly dont even want to use the software that came with this card as i use BI , i just wanted a 4 channel capture card.. the description on ebay said u could view 4 channels simultaneously but apparently maybe its just while using there software?.. I would try btspy if i could get the software working. I think i tracked down the model# DV-AC4-30 from ameta, and hopefully it is ok to put this link below to my card. http://www(DOT)ameta.ca/product_detail.php?pid=15&cid=16 Would i be better off with a Geovision GV-600 ? I notice it only has one chip.. but all in all i only need 7.5 fps on 4 cameras.. so this might work? Is the software that comes wiith this card very good? Any help with getting a driver that is able to get windows to see 4 inputs would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time

Possible to build a $500 system?

OK i have read and read and well ive gathered you need a decent dvr that can record @D1 ...i assume most of them can record all 4 channels @D1 at the same time?? Also i assume a 1/3 sony super had ccd is a pretty good camera? it seems this one had a good pixel count http://cgi.ebay.com/1-3-Sony-Super-HAD-CCD-IR-3-6mm-Lens-480-TV-LN-CCTV-/380200815524?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5885bc0ba4 would that be a very good camera? Im just not real sure how to pick good cams over bad ones.. Would anyone mind showing me what they would buy if they had a $500 budget and just needed a dvr, 2 outdoor cameras, and 1 indoor camera ? Thanks for any help.. as i dont have lots of money to go experimenting with alot of products and would like to give the customer a decent system for there home. Feel free to pm me with any deals you know of that this site might not let u announce Thanks Jeff

Newbie Here :) tryin to build a system

Hey thanks again. Well is there a online store u would recommend? And i guess im wondering what i should know about a camera?? Is 1/3 sony ccd and dsp a good recommendation? And well it seems for larger areas i would use a 3.6mm lens with less detail and 8mm to 12mm for closer and more detail. Dont think i would need focusable lens's as i would just choose through my selection to fit what the customer needs. This is just going to be for home uses mostly and not so much focused on business's. Is there a certain dvr you would recommend that you know has the software to do the things i stated above? Thanks Jeff
