  1. Hi, I've seen this code: http:///cgi-bin/configManager.cgi?action=setConfig&Telnet.Enable=true Is there something similar which can disable telnet? I did telnet into my older DVR (doesn't work on my 4104 NVR) and looked around but that didn't record any log of my entry. What would have to be done to cause a log to be recorded? Thanks

  3. Hi, So I've been installing Dahua systems over the last 6/7 years and have all sorts of devices out there, from DVR's running a few analogue cameras to large IP camera systems. I always make sure to change all default passwords and keep on the latest firmware where possible. I have heard of the Dahua hacks a few months ago but didn't think much of it since I always change the passwords. Fast forward to this week when I received three calls about systems going offline on Tuesday morning. I usually leave the auto Tuesday 2am reset on. What I figured happened was the hackers got in Sunday/Monday and did their thing, the unit reboots and activates their new settings leaving the customer with a hacked system. Here's where it gets weird. From the logs I can see their IP and that they have logged in using the '888888' login. Yes I know that is supposed to be a local login only but whatever it isn't. The thing is my custom password is still working and if I try log in with '888888' as the password it fails. So, how did they get in? is there a backdoor utilizing the default password? is it via telnet and should/can I change the password there? Are they able to get onto the local network this way? Also, what is the best way to protect the units? with the newer NVR's I have the latest firmware from Dahua's website but is that enough? and what about the old DVR's I have out there with no firmware update available to them? Any info would be a great help for me and I'm sure the many other who have had these hacks happen! Images below
  4. Hi, I meant milestone or cms gold or an equivalent pc based NVR solution. I'm in London. With that setup what are using as the recorder? Thanks!
  5. Oh right I see. No the PTZ is IP. I can control it from the Dahua but it doesn't respond very well. Ideally I would like to have it all run from an NVR with a dedicated iphone app to make everything simpler than running on a PC. How do you know it will work with the avermedia NVR? I'm asking so I can understand what makes it different from dahua/hikvision etc Any other NVR's so I can do my research on price etc tomorrow? Or do you suggest installing milestone/cms gold? Thanks!
  6. Will it work with a Hikvision NVR by any chance? All equipment is connected to three switches and one router. There is atleast one PTZ connected which I have found. So CMS Gold is basically a NVR software for a PC as far as I can see? Googling Avigilon seems to suggest its also a software rather than a purpose built NVR..is that correct? Thanks!
  7. So what manufacturers and software's will work with Lilin cameras then? I'm not too sure to be honest. I mostly spent the day trying to get them to work with the Dahua NVR. From what I remember when looking at the main PC recorder there kept being drop outs on the screen. But is the Lilin cameras/software any good? I've always been under the impression that PC based NVR's aren't as reliable. Thanks!
  8. Hi guys I have been asked to look at an install with about 25 Lilin IP cameras. The cameras are a few years old (Most only have D1 res) and are connected to their CMX software for recording. I have set up many IP camera systems before but I always try and keep brands together. I have not come across Lilin cameras before. Anyway, the Dahua NVR I have is the 16 channel version from Qvis. It finds the Lilin cameras and displays them (in the settings it picks up the manufacturer as Onvif) but there are some issues. The cameras flicker and sometimes switch camera number. E.g cam 10 would show the image from cam 6 for a brief moment and others would do the same. Sometimes it stays for longer. Also it seems rather glitchy. The image is not smooth and appears as if it is speeding up the image to catch up to itself. I have updated all the cameras to their latest firmware and the NVR is the latest firmware too. Anyone had this issue before? Anyone know of what NVR brand will work happily with these? The reason for adding in a NVR is because the CMX software on the PC isn't very good and the client is happy with the Dahua software & apps etc. There is also 8 screens around the site, each in groups of 4, which display all the cameras. This is currently done with a PC connected to each screen and logging into the cameras and displaying the feeds. I hope I've explained everything clearly. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Help deciding what system to go for

hi thanks for the reply! i think im gonna go for the ip cameras but when i meant slow i meant like when you watch someone walk across the screen it seems jumpy as if low FPS rate...how would it be when running at full resolution? and regarding it being a second late isnt a problem...its only a second so proposed system: 6 x http://www.use-ip.co.uk/vivotek-ip8332-network-bullet-camera.html 1 x http://www.use-ip.co.uk/qnap-viostor-vs-2012-network-video-recorder.html 1 x http://www.use-ip.co.uk/planet-gsd-802ps-8-port-10-100-1000mbps-with-2-shared-sfp-web-smart-poe-switch.html 200m of cat 5 (was told no reasont to go for cat 6) all cameras to be mounted outside and hopefully running at fell res and as high as possible FPS anyone have any opinions on this proposal? Many Thanks!!
  11. Hi I'm looking to upgrade the cctv cameras i currently have at home and am having trouble deciding what unit to go for. Current system: Standalone DVR (no web connection) 6 external cameras (4-5 years old atleast) 3 in front of house, 1 facing house, 1 on each side of house looking at the drive 3 at back of house, 1 at end of the garden facing the back of the house, 1 on each side of the house onto garden Looking into: IP megapixel cameras and nvr (network video recorder) or upgrade normal cameras and dvr if i go IP based route i will need to run new cables to all the camera locations (not so much hasstle) but...I dont know what cameras or dvr to go for... The cheapest i have come across is: [edit by mod-store link removed] and nvr will be a pc..so about £300-400 worth of pc i have been told that currently the cameras will not be 100% real time due to encoding etc and will be a little laggy... anyone know more about that?? if i go standard dvr route i have been told this is a good setup: [edit by mod-store link removed] [edit by mod-store link removed] but the quality will be no where near that of a megapixel camera will be about 0.4mp comapred to the 1~mp of the shown ip camera Sure i could go down the cheap route and get an ebay dvr for £350 or so and £100 cameras but research has lead to show that they are rather bad quality and likely to break down. So...anyone here have experience in this field? anything they can recommend? Thanks!!
