  1. Hi Sector Security, Thanks for responding to my post ThE Geovision GV-1120 does 240fps (8 channel) and I have tried various rates of fps. Are you saying that viewing at say 10fps will be noticeably worse than viewing at 30fps for a virtually still environment? All the other settings such as compression are set for highest quality too. Yesterday eve I connected the output of the card to my tv and also tried some of the cameras directly to the tv. Results were marginal if any. The only time I've had good results was when I tested the cameras in my lounge (a much smaller area) I'm thinking of perhaps having two cameras to cover each area, with one zoomed in, for detail. Effectively making it a 4 camera system.
  2. I am hoping this is the best place to post as this covers many categories – apologies if not, please advise. I have analogue cameras and a GV-1120 and a DS2 I have been struggling for weeks on end to try and get decent video out of my Geovision GV1120 8 channel PCI I have tried about 10 different cameras with fixed/varifocal lens from 480 to 600 TVL e.g. Vantage box, Honeywell box , Xvision box, Vista dome, cheap chinese 27x ptz with balun and utp With D1 and varying fps up to 30fps and the results are pretty much the same (can only be described as poor at best) (Even for live viewing) The image unless really close seems pixilated I have tried a 500Gb DM DS2 legacy version through my 37 inch plasma TV and picture seems better I keep reading that D1 resolution is similar to TV/DVD or thereabouts, but my video is so poor My next idea is to connect each camera direct to my Plasma TV to eliminate the processing of the Geovision and DS2 I think I am missing something fundamental here How should a analogue camera plugged into a LCD/Plasma TV compare to a camera plugged into a capture card/dedicated DVR unit. I am perplexed I am almost at the stage of buying some IP cameras, but hoping I don’t need to Am I expecting too much to view crisp video full screen on a 17 inch tft monitor from the setup I have? I only want to view 5m or so away and width of about 5m Surely all these cameras can’t be that bad, I don’t know where I am going wrong Any advice is much appreciated

    GV-1120 pci pixelation, genuine card?

Thank you so much for your reply and for the links to the other websites I had previously read that there are many fakes out there especially on eBay, I am away from home for a few days so am not able to check just yet however FYI some of the information on one of the links is inaccurate..see below From url http://www.dvrkits.com/help-support/identify-fake-dvr-cards "On the Authentic DVR Card: To the left of the picture you will notice a small round circuit that is inside a little square. On the top is the print, “330”. This is a high quality crystal oscillator and is made from an epoxy resin material. This is a very durable circuit and it made to last." I work in electronics, previously in the Telecoms industry and the component labelled 330 is is fact a 33uH inductor. The oscillator used in the fake picture is commonly used on high value industrial and military products but agree oscillators are prone to fail This does make me question the credibility of this article I will post an update when I have checked my cards, live chat with Geovision was not available the times I have tried to check my serial number, will keep trying Can never seem to get on live chat with Geovision, keep getting the message 'no operators available' Many thanks
  4. Hi All, I have recently purchased a GV1120 PCI (not express) card that came with version 8.3 I was using a GV800 PCI card in my 1.80GHz dual core PC with 4GB of DDR2 and version 8.4 Have manage to get the system up and running by removing the GV-800 directory, uninstalling the driver and reinstalling all, luckily all the iPhone and other remote access worked as before I have a couple of issues and am hoping I can get some support from the forum members Firstly, I need to find out if this is a genuine card as I have a few days in which to contact the seller (was an eBay purchase). I have read a lot of stories.... Secondly, the images are very pixelated especially when view large screen and more so on the 1120 than the 800 The 800 was also purchased from eBay but came with the box, manuals etc I also need to check the audio, there are 8 headers on the PCB, but I cannot find any detailed information on how to connect. The installation guide if i remember correctly shows that they are for audio connection but doesn't show channel numbers or pinout My cameras are Honeywell, and X-vision 540TVL and 600TVL respectively and have selected maximum resolution and 10fps from the Geovision application. The pc doesnt seem to be overworked and I have a ATI radeon card that plays my 1080hd films no problem Any advice would be greatly appreciated Many thanks - Gino
  5. Hi Guys, Have just bought a 27X PTZ speed dome camera and have several low 'standard' cameras (0-1 lux sony ccd) I currently use a generic 4 channel pci card with pico 2000 software but not really happy with the performance. I also have a swann 4 channel pci card that is essentially the same, think they may be a cheap copy of a Geovision card? I'm not sure whether to go the standalone dvr or the computer card route. I have a couple of PC's sitting around at the mo. I know the PC is more versatile, but tempted to say a good standalone will be a easier option I need remote viewing, and ideally for the iphone and also PTZ controls (up to 4 cams), perhaps 100fps, but nothing else too fancy. My budget is around 200 pounds. Can anyone advise and recommend a system and I'm mew to CCTV and don't know what is available on the market. Any advice much appreciated best wishes - Brian G Smyth

    Hi

Hi, Am new to the forum and this is my first post, just to say hello to everyone really. Have been browsing this site for a while and have been impressed with what I have read. Have been playing around with cameras and a Cheap 4 channel PCI dvr card and have recently purchased a 27X PTZ and hope to get to grips with these and expand my system. It is for personal use, hobby/home security. My background is Electronics and ICT, and hope I am able to give something back to the forum as well as learn. I'm based in Coventry best wishes - Gino
