Re: How to get cameras on telephone pole

Well, the reason one would use Cat7 over Cat5 would be 2 fold. One reason is for future proofing due to the speed advantage as Cat5 is up to 10Mbps and Cat7 is up to 10Gbps at the distance I am going. The other reason (among many others) would be the shielding. Not to mention direct burial Cat7 offers even more protection than your regular ethernet cable. Furthermore, if you are already spending over 1k on a new system (POE Nvr and 6 cameras) why would you not spend a little extra for a superior cable? Anyways regarding the pole, it is not an issue where I am I can assure you of that or else it would not have been considered in the first place. I came into this looking for alternate ideas on this project but have since figured it out but appreciate the replies nonetheless. Have a good one.

Here is another crude drawing that may or may not illustrate my thoughts a bit better.

Re: How to get cameras on telephone pole

My thought is to have 3 weatherproof junction boxes total. 2 of those boxes attached to a 2"x4" that is then attached to the pole. Then attach each camera to the boxes. Then running curved pvc from each camera box to the main box in the middle then cables down the long pvc that runs the length of the pole. I know that sounds convoluted in explanation but my brain is having a hard time articulating what I am trying to say. Hope it's not too confusing.

Re: How to get cameras on telephone pole

I have attached a crude drawing to illustrate what I am trying to do. Yes, it is our pole at our business.
  5. As the title states, I'm looking for ideas on how to get 2 cameras near the top of a telephone pole. I am renting a scissor lift this weekend and putting 2 - 180 degree cameras near the top of the pole on opposite ends but at the same height as to get the whole property. These are POE cameras running power from cat7 direct burial lines. My thought is to put some sort of weatherproof junction box in between them with a 1" pvc line coming from the bottom of it. I've never done an install where a junction box was needed so am not familiar with the type that I would need. So I am looking for some suggestions/tips on how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. I am trying to setup my routers for remote viewing of my dvr cams. I have uverse which is a 2wire modem/gateway (model 3801HGV). Since the only computer in the network is not always on to update my host I am trying to set up ddns within the router. Since the at&t gateway does not support ddns internally I set up a dlink di-624 router connected to the at&t gateway to handle the dns host updating. I used the following guide to do so: 1. Set your router's WAN interface to get an IP address via DHCP. This is required at first so that the 2Wire recognizes your router. 2. Plug your router's WAN interface to one of the 2Wire's LAN interfaces. 3. Restart your router, let it get an IP address via DHCP. 4. Log into the 2Wire router's interface. Go to Settings -> Firewall -> Applications, Pinholes, and DMZ 5. Select your router under section (1). 6. Click the DMZPlus button under section (2). 7. Click the Save button. 8. Restart your router, when it gets an address via DHCP again, it will be the public outside IP address. At this point, you can leave your router in DHCP mode (make sure the firewall on your router allows the DHCP renewal packets, which will occur every 10 minutes), or you can change your router's IP address assignment on the WAN interface to static, and use the same settings it received via DHCP. 9. On the 2Wire router, go to Settings -> Firewall -> Advanced Configuration 10. Uncheck the following: Stealth Mode, Block Ping, Strict UDP Session Control. 11. Check everything under Outbound Protocol Control except NetBIOS. 12. Uncheck NetBIOS under Inbound Protocol Control. 13. Uncheck all the Attack Detection checkboxes (7 of them). 14. Click Save. So after doing so I now have forwarded port 80, 8000, 8010 and 1050. After checking with an online port checker the only one that seems to be open is port 80. I can view the cams on the local lan but not remotely. I have the dvr hooked to the dlink router via cat5 and also have the uverse gateway hooked to the dlink router in the wan port. I am a paying customer for no-ip for handling my dns resolving. I have all of that information inputted into the dvr settings as it should be. The only thing I am not sure of is the preferred and secondary dns settings. For those I used the primary and secondary from the uverse gateway which I am not sure is correct and could be the issue. The reason I did that is because when I look at the settings in the dlink router the only one listed is the preferred which is listed as 192.168.1.254 which is the gateway for the uverse gateway. Also, the other issue that I think I have is not being able to port forward ports 8000 or 1050. I'm not sure where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Trying to get license plates

I have been reading on this forum a bit for answers on my dilemma. I see where a few people have successfully been able to capture license plates off of the Effio 9-22mm 700TVL camera. My dad owns a boat storage place and am looking for some expertise on a setup I am thinking about. I was thinking of building a small structure with a sign on it that I can hide a camera in. The structure and camera would be maybe 5 feet off to the side of the entrance. It would sit about 30" (around the height of a license plate) off of the ground and pointed at around a 25 degree angle to the right towards the entrance gate. The point where the cars have to stop to punch in the gate code would be no more than 40ft. It has automatic bright flood lights that come on when a car is near. I am wondering if the aforementioned camera would work in that condition or not. Thank you in advance.
  8. Thank you very much for looking into that Birdman Adam. I was thinking the last four were 3722. Thanks for the clarification.
  9. I can't tell you all how much I appreciate the kind and constructive replies I have received. Rory, thank you for trying to process the image better. NotoriousBRK, thank you for your link to the forensic place I might look into that. Lesst, I know you were just trying to give constructive criticism and I should have taken it as that so I too apologize. This week sometime me and my dad are setting aside some time to try to build something to house the license plate camera around 3-4 ft. off the ground. In other words closer to the same height as a plate would be off the ground and bit more head on. The reason they are at the current angle is because he had built and concreted in a 12' pole to house those cameras without consulting me first. Since he spent a bit of time on it I felt that maybe we could get it focused as it was. It just sucks that during all of this testing and configuring was when we really needed them. He really dropped everything he had into this RV yard financially so I really hate bringing up the need for at least another $1,000 in cameras and probably another $600 for a decent DVR. So while I know better equipment is needed at the moment it's a difficult option. So as you can see I kind of have to work with what I have at the moment. Once again I really appreciate all of the replies as they gave me much to think about.
  10. Rory, I do have the original video in .264 and .avi format. It is the source video and all that I posted was a print screen from the video. If you maybe could look at it I would greatly appreciate it. I could pm you a link or something. If you don't want to mess with it then I totally understand . Thank you for your reply.
  11. Wow, did you really need to be such an arrogant asshole in your reply? I was merely asking a simple question. I mean if it can't be done either move on to the next post or reply with something to the effect of: "In my opinion I don't think that can be done at that resolution" or maybe "you might think of investing in better cameras and here is a couple of models you might look at". To make a statement of: Hey everyone look at what this jackass is trying to do, now everyone point and laugh at the moron. That's just ridiculously rude. If I were to act like that to someone (which I wouldn't) I would literally have trouble sleeping at night but I am different from most people in that I would actually rather help someone and not take shots at them. Now that I am done ranting I will give you a bit of my own background and perhaps clarify some things since my original post was a bit short. I am IT tech and have been for 20+ years so naturally everyone in my family comes to me for tech support which gets old but can be rewarding. When my father had bought an RV yard not so long ago his first line of security was to rent the house on the property so the renter could look after things. Then a couple of things such as boat radios and the like had been stolen. So I suggested that maybe he get some cctv cameras for a little more protection. Now not knowing anything about cctv setups I began researching and as a trial run he bought a swann 4 pack set with 2 bullets night time cameras and 2 long range cameras. Those were setup with swann dvr cards in a computer I had built for him (keep in mind this all had to be done on a budget). That worked alright for awhile but the Swann DVR program was hard for him to manage as he really has no knowledge of computers much less proprietary programs. So I then bought a qsee DVR standalone system which is what is currently in place and he can navigate through and play back video with ease so we were cruising. Not many phone calls everyday for me and he was happy. Then he had thought, maybe we need to get a camera to capture license plate images. So again I am now researching license plate cameras but he didn't like the price of the ones I wanted to get. So I finally came across one that was supposedly made by sony that would get a license plate and when we tested it it did. That was not too long ago when those were integrated into the system but have not truly got them focused to where they need to be as I haven't had a lot of time to help him lately (two person job). So then this happens the other day and we kind of got caught with our pants down. So this weekend we are going to change some things up and get it right. Also at the same time try to focus in on this particular license plate to try to make it out. So again I ask if anyone knows of software that can either enhance video or a still frame then I would love to check in to it. I have tried many many programs so far with no luck but am going to try a few more over the weekend. Thank you in advance. BTW, the beginning of my post is aimed at Lesst and not you Rory.
  12. As it says in the subject I am trying to enhance a video and/or a picture captured from a video to get the license plate off of a car. If anyone can possibly lend me a hand in trying to make out the license plate in the attached picture or maybe name some software that does that it would be greatly appreciated.. This person stole a trailer with a 30k dollar piece of equipment on it..
