    Hikvision 4k NVR Problems

I had that same issue a while back, but I have 12 4k cameras. I think it was trying to push them too hard, too high of a bit rate. After backing some of them down (all were at 20k+ bitrate) to 8500 and only the couple really important ones higher things went better. It was a while ago, but I am pretty sure that was the reason I had the problem. Mine is Q-see, made by Dahua, but the issue may be the same.
  2. When I first got the nvr I put in 1 new 6tb WD purple, 2 4tb WD purples from the 3 year old Lorex set and left in their 3tb drive, then I eventually replaced the 3tb with a 6tb Seagate security drive, so it does indeed go past 6tb. I have 4 hard drives totaling 20tb at the moment (2@6tb and 2@4tb), unless my brain is messed up. I may have to go check to be sure. I currently have 12 cameras going at a pretty high rate, but just added 11 and 12 last week so I don't know how much difference it will make. With 10 cams I was getting 30 days, but some of the cams are set to the smaller 4 tb drives and they get overwritten a few days sooner than the 6tb drives. I put the more important cameras divided between the 6tb drives and the others divided between the 4tb cams. When the 6tb security drives go on sale again I will replace the 2 4tb ones, almost 4 years of nonstop record/read/write has got to be taking its toll, and another 4tb of space can only be better.
  3. I found this on networkcameracritic from almost 2 years ago "The Sensitivity is the amount of change required in the image to trigger an event. So setting to the 100 means any pixels change, it’s a change, so setting it to 50 would mean if half the pixels change. It’s probably not that precise, but that’s the gist of how it works on most cameras. Threshold is the level of change required for it to trigger an event which is several factors like speed and intensity of change. So If you want to capture very large objects, you can set the sensitivity way down if you are trying to capture bunnies hopping on your driveway, you would set it very high, but then set the threshold high enough to minimize false motion detects. It’s all trial an error...." I set the sensitivity of one cam to about 85, then threshold to zero and it recorded almost continuous motion. Then I set the threshold to 3 and it records if I tap my foot, but then stops when I do.
  4. Maybe a defective port, too. Does a hard wired mouse work?

    Wireless Mouse

I am using the M325 and a Perixx upright mouse, but have used other logitech. If the signal is too far away use a USB extension to bring the wireless receiver closer to you.
  6. I did some trouble shooting and have contacted Q-See 3 times now about various issues. They are not particularly helpful. I did hook a lapdock screen right to the NVR via HDMI (no TV close by right now) and tested it that way and playback is smooth, so there is a bottleneck somewhere. Either the cheap thin cat5 cables they supply or my router. I am using a desktop wired directly to the router (not wireless) so there should not be any throughput lag, and the lags are exactly the same when I am using the wireless laptop, so it may point to router anyway. I am looking at purchasing a new one so I will see if that is the issue. The rep, when I was on chat, had me check my isp speeds (10mbps down and 2 up) and said they were too slow. First off, the Lorex system has no trouble with it when I do remote viewing, nor does the Qsee app, and second, why would my internet speed have anything to do with my LAN? I am not playing back these videos over the internet, I am going straight through from NVR to Router to Desktop, all hard wired. There is an awful small hard drive in the NVR, only 3TB. I will be upgrading that as soon as I figure out if I like this enough to keep it. It has been very frustrating. It does not keep settings all the time (it would randomly reboot and all the settings I put in would be wiped out, a firmware ugrade helped a little -it hasn't rebooted in a few days). The web viewer freezes all the time when I am trying to change settings. So I go into PSS to set up the cameras only to find the settings are not the same there as available on the web viewer and some are totally screwy, like when selecting cameras for snapshot and motion detect, all the camera fields say 1 on them, not 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 like they should. Just 11111111. I guess I should go back to the basement and set everything up via HDMI right from the NVR, I haven't tried that since the firmware update.
  7. I have used a number of different Logitech mice and one Perixx. If you are too far away from the receiver for the mouse to work, like I was, just buy a USB extension cord and move the wireless mouse receiver closer that way. The receiver itself doesn't have to be plugged directly into the NVR. I had a hole in the floor to bring the HDMI up to the TV anyway, so I just ran a USB extension to the same hole and plugged the wireless mouse receiver in there. It is a 20 or 25 foot extension. There is a length of USB ( I don't remember what it is) that would need a booster, but 25 feet doesn't.
  8. I have searched the forum to no avail so here is my problem: I purchased a Qsee system from Costco. It is the Dahua 4k 8816 NVR with 8 4mp cameras. I set it up just sitting on a table for now with one camera outside and the rest on the table looking at various things to test them out before putting them up in place of the aging Lorex cameras. When motion is recorded and I try to play it back, it plays back some motion, then freezes for 2-4 seconds, then whoever is in the picture is 10 feet from where they were when the playback resumes. I have tested playback numerous times on 2 different machines that are extremely capable of video handling and on a fast network, as well as straight from the NVR itself. It is like watching a stop motion video, except there are obviously chunks of action missing. When someone is walking they keep jumping from place to place, not a continuous motion. I tested playing the video frame by frame and it still appears frozen for usually 2 seconds, then leaps forward, resumes play then stops for 2 seconds, on and on. By accident I found that if I played back in reverse frame by frame, all the frames were there and I could see the missing motion. Now this is not an acceptable solution to have to play back every motion alert frame by frame backwards to see what went on! So, is there something wrong with this NVR, do I have something set wrong? Any help would be appreciated. As a side note, this setup does not record 2 separate streams like the Lorex. Lorex I could set motion to very low quality while continuously recording everything high quality. Then if something triggered a motion event I could see if it was worth replaying at the higher settings and I was guaranteed a high quality recording of everything that went on all the time. I can't do that with this Q-See. When a motion event is recorded the regular stream appears to stop. So if the motion record has issues I don't think I want to keep this unit. Any input would be appreciated.

    Upgrading to 4k NVR?

Hi your lorex will work because they are h264 Lorex don't use hikvision now they use dahua But I am talking about 3 year old Lorex, not new ones.

    Upgrading to 4k NVR?

Do you think the Lorex branded Hiks will be disabled or crippled in any way from using them Onvif with the new Dahua system?
  11. This is the Hikvision (Lorex) NVR from Costco. I contacted them just recently about their "return at any time, satisfaction guarantee" because I was recently having additional problems with this set. The IR cut filter on a couple cameras were flashing any time there was a motion event (causing the cameras to flash to black or white, depending on the time of day, and obliterate the picture) there was also a pink view on one camera all day. They put me through to Lorex and they told me I have to have every camera on the same bitrate and settings, etc or it would be a problem. It wasn't a problem in the past, so they said as the unit got older it couldn't keep up with the strain of the cameras all being set up different. It shouldn't be that way. They would not honor the return guarantee anyway. I did change the cameras all to the same settings and the flashing with motion went away, but I still have issues every time there is a motion event the camera gets all pixellated. That makes it pretty worthless. Reviewing footage of our recent earthquake, when the shaking was at its peak the cameras got all blurry and it wasn't because they were moving. The picture pixellated. Previous footage of other earthquakes swinging stuff around in the house didn't cause that. It has only been since I have had to drop the bit rates on the cameras so low to keep the NVR running. I think the unit is just slowly failing and they don't want to take it back. And of course it is a few months out of warranty. So how can one tell if they have the bitcoin miner? I changed my default passwords the day I got the machine. I do occasionally get "illegal login" emails, but that indicates a password fail and looking at logs I never see any log-ins or activity other than my own.
  12. My current NVR can barely handle the 8 cams on it. I have to knock the bitrates on them so low in order to run all of them it affects the recordings some. I am looking at a few more cameras, including a PTZ, so I want to just get a new NVR that can take the newer high mp cameras and the PTZ. I am leaning toward Dahua. My current system is Hikvision/Lorex LNR200. Most of the new NVR's say they support ONVIF (2.0 to 2.4), but if I were to get the Dahua, what are the chances that the Hiks (actually they are Lorex) will really work on it via ONVIF? I would like to move a few cameras off the old NVR to lighten it's load and also purchase a few 4 or 5mp cameras to go with the new one. I also want integrated PoE ports, I don't really want to have a separate PoE switch, which many of the cheaper ones force you into. I have researched till I can't stand it. The specs on a given model number will vary widely depending on who is selling it. Is that a firmware issue, or do all these people just not bother making sure their ads are correct? This is on everything from Dahua's site itself to Amazon to Wrightwood. My goal is 4k, support PTZ, up to a 12mp cam if possible, but no lower than 5mp. Enough bandwidth that the cameras can run as intended. I see some NVR's are up to 800mbps (Mbps?) input now, but it seems 200-300 would be reasonable. Anyone have any experience with the newer NVR's? This is one that has specs that catch my eye. http://www.dahuasecurity.com/download/20160202iasjzp.pdf Any opinions?
  13. Definitely hide the DVR. And better yet, put a dummy one near the TV. They'll grab that and not keep looking for another.
  14. Just an update to let people following this thread know that the LNR200 does keep losing cameras basically once a month. Every 22-28 days (I suppose it depends on how much is going on in that time?) I start losing cameras, going on and off line. A hard reboot (power switch off for 10-20 seconds, then back on) cures the problem for another month. No support from Lorex of course. Very poor device support once you have purchased it. No software updates , firmware or bug fixes. They could certainly use better viewer software for the computer too! What junk. At least the wiring is in place. Someday I will replace it with something better. Until then, I just have to be here to reboot it once a month. Sigh.
  15. Because motion detection can't be counted on to always work and there are so many false motion positives with dust, moths , spiders and the like, I set motion to a lower bitrate and just use it if I need to find an incident. I keep the constant record to the highest quality I can squeak out of the system. That way anything I find in motion record I have a high quality copy of in the continuous record file and if I know something happened (maybe footprints, or something out of place) but can't find it in motion I know I have it in good quality in continuous record, I just have to manually find it.
