Video Servers reporting 'Too Many Connections'

Ok here's another I figured out for myself - it would seem that recent firmware updates created a new restriction on the # of connections which interestingly enough is not what you think in terms of connections but instead should refer to 'streams' - so for example if you add the video server to 2 DVR Systems inside of either MultiCam or Control Center etc. and the video server has 4 Cameras each is considered a 'connection' - hence the 4x2=8 limit now set by the firmware for a GV-VS04H video server. The newer GV-VS14 will allow for 16 'connections' as they provide for dual streams. This is no where in any manual and you may as well ignore the max connections setting in the web interface for the video server being set at the default 20 - the only place you will find this information is in the version history of the firmware files. I'm going to see if I can get around this by using the multi-cast functionality in the video server and will post back to let others know how I made out. Fun with GeoVision! Gotta love it...
  2. So out of no where after at least 3 yrs. of never once experiencing this issue nearly all of my Video Servers (a mixture of mainly GV-VS04H with some GV-VS14's etc.) are reporting a 'Too many connections' error which ultimately results in dropping the video (video lost) across a series of DVR's and the main viewing area in what I call mission control where we pull everything together in Control Center... I thought that possibly the various staff which view subsets of cams on their mobile devices might be the issue so I set each video server to reboot in the early morning hours in a staggered pattern which should drop any open connections. That would leave at most 3 active connections on restart but in most cases only 2 (the Control Center connection and the connection to whichever DVR I am recording those cameras on) but I am still experiencing this issue after a couple of days after setting up the auto reboot. What gives? This system never fails to throw me new curve balls at every turn even as we add to and expand its coverage of the properties it monitors. I am getting to the point where I feel it would be foolish to continue in investing any further $$ though the client is semi committed when you consider the # of Video Servers / DVR's etc... In most cases the wired connections aren't even close to maxed (16 camera cards with only 4 or 6 cameras locally hard wired) and each of the DVR's is a killer build - ie. all of the backbone is pretty much maxed out or overkill for the job i7 4790k processors with 16gb memory - SSD system drives with plenty of extra storage for the Video All of the video servers have max connections set at the default 20 but as I mention above there should be at most 3 or 4 connections at any given time and since no one is accessing the Video Servers directly for viewing (they access the WebCamServer of the DVR if I'm understanding correctly) the actual # of connections should never approach 20!

Layout List is greyed out / not available in Control Center

So I managed to figure this out on my own - hopefully it may help someone else who inherits a system like I did in working with this client and / or forgets after some time the less than intuitive way that this works... In the end if I remember correctly when in the application layout section if you right click on the greyed out matrixes at the bottom it will give you options on where to place them. I guess drag and drop or any # of more intuitive ways to achieve this were not considered when writing the software...

Layout List is greyed out / not available in Control Center

Its been several days and I am still at a loss as to why I am encountering this issue. I am on-site today trying to resolve the problem - just as a test to attempt to determine if it is a restriction per our dongle I went ahead and created 4 Matrixes with only 8 cameras each and the layout list icon remains greyed out (inaccessible) - The system is recognizing the 4 monitors as they show up in application position interface but again all of the matrixes / emap / vmd icons below the monitor layout portion of the screen remain greyed out. Truly at a loss and any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated !! --J
  5. I've recently added 2 additional 60" monitors on top of the 2 existing 60's to allow my client to view more of our cameras from a combination of DVR's an NVR and a handful of Video Servers (GV-VS14's etc.) First hurdle was though the existing video card would recognize 4 monitors, it would only allow me to activate 2 at a time - added another video card and can now extend the desktop across all 4 monitors. Then I go into control center and create 2 new Matrixes but I cannot open / assign their start position to the 2 new monitors. The layout list icon is greyed out / inaccessible. It will allow me to open the 3rd matrix but places it over the first matrix on monitor 1 - not what we were looking for and at a lower resolution in the top left corner of the monitor. I am lost as to why this is. We have a dongle but I have never known its purpose as all of the equipment / cards - video servers etc. are all Geo-Vision so we are not using any 3rd party IP cameras. The application position window will come up but all of the icons at bottom for various Matrixes are also greyed out. Any ideas? Client is not pleased after investing in the new 60's and their installation - and I am on the hook for getting this to work before I can get paid. Hardware for the "VIEWER-PC" who's only purpose is to provide an aggregate view of our various host DVR's and other sources (NVR/Video Servers) is about as robust as you can get. Core i7 4790k 16GB Ram - System Drive is a RAID0 SSD array (lightning fast) and storage though currently unused is 2xWD Purple Surveillance Rated Drives. Video Cards are 2xRadeon 6770 HD's. I am thinking it may be a Dongle issue but the system doesn't in anyway indicate that I have hit a theoretical limit... Many thanks for any advice as to how to proceed from here. --JMS
  6. I recently took on a new client and inherited a GEOVISION system as part of my IT work at their site. I have many questions as I bring things back online - mainly centered around how certain things work together ie. Multiple DVR's / Authentication Server / CMS Server/ Dongle etc. but for now I'm mostly interested in getting the MATRIX views back on in the main monitoring office. In what I call mission control they have two 60" Monitors at 1920 x 1080 used to view two MATRIX's that were setup to view a subset of cameras accross 4 DVR's at 3 locations. When I go to fire off either of the two I get an error message that the resolution must be at least 1024 x 768 as well as something to the effect that the start position is incorrect. This is very frustrating as the resolution is setup on the viewer PC as 1920x1080 and the display is extended across the two monitors. Any suggestions ?
