Issues wtih Image Quality and FPS rate on NVR System

Don't disagree - with you Sk. I had the Axis M1054 so I thought the CMOS in Axis cameras were good. I will play around with it some more - but I am hoping some others respond to see if they have had a similar experience and what (if anything) they can do to correct it.

Issues wtih Image Quality and FPS rate on NVR System

SunnyK I understand where you are coming from using H264 and not MJPEG. I agree with you on the compression. But the picture is grainy either way. I have the Synology camera settings at variable bit rates set with highest quality. I can go into the camera settings and look at the output from the Axis settings. But that still leaves the issue of picture grain and not clarity. Any thoughts on that?
  3. I have the following setup: 1. Synology Disk Station DS1513+ 2. 5 - WD Red NAS 2 Tb HD (Set to Raid 6) 3. Netgear Switch gs728tpp switch - 24 port POE 4. Cat 6 5. 2 Axis M1054 - IP POE 6. Using DS Cam App on iphone/ipad etc. for remote viewing etc. - No problems setting up No problems setting up the Axis cameras and Synology NAS Surveillance System. Decided to LAG the 4 ports on the Synology with the Netgear despite the fact each Axis camera only connects at 100/Mb/s (Thought this might help with throughput). I had the system recording continuous for a 15 day period. Issues on Quality - my biggest problem is the picture quality from the Axis cameras. First, I know it is the M line which is considered by Axis sort of middle of the road as far as cameras goes. However, the pictures on both Axis cameras are not crystal clear and are grainy. I have tried several settings on the cameras to see if the picture would be clearer and the streaming would reach 30fps (with little to no frame drop). However, nothing seems to work well. I have tried the following settings on the cameras: 1. MJPEG Compression - 1280x720 - 30 fps - variable bit rate - Highest quality - RESULT - Still grainy both on live view and recording (I know MJPEG compression is better picture but larger data than H264) 2. H264 Compression - 1280x720 - 30 fps - variable bit rate - Highest quality - RESULT - Still grainy both on live view and recording 3. Even alternating Compression between MJPEG and H264 with lower resolutions gives me a grainy picture and I am unable to achieve 30fps or close to it. Now I have looked at the system and tried to figure out the bottleneck - is it the camera? switch? Synology? - Cant figure it out. So I need some help. Eventually I wanted to add 9 outdoor cameras to this system - (probably need a separate rackstation Synology for the outdoor cameras as I wanted to increase their quality and looking at the Axis Q1765-LE model - which is a 1080i/720p bullet camera I really like). However, I need to figure out if the issue on grainy picture is simply the M1054 camera quality itself or is it bottlenecking somewhere in the system. I looked at replacing the M1054 with the Axis Q1755 (since the Q model series of Axis is their top of the line). Can anyone share thoughts on what seems to be the issue with the grainy picture and the inability to get true clear HD quality picture with 30fps with little frame drop rate in my system? Would enabling jumbo frame rates on the netgear help at all? I did not think it would since all the axis cameras are connecting at 100MB/s - wish some of these cameras would connect at 1gig/s. I am truly at a loss here. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Outdoor ip camera recommendation

Just a note. I have some axis cameras already in the M series and was not too impressed with live video feed over Poe. It was grainy and not crisp/clear. I need something that is crystal clear that is quality that works over Poe in an NVR. I am using Synology NAS with their surveillance station software. Anyone have any suggestions on brands/models?
  5. Hey all. I am looking for a top of the line outdoor dome camera that can do 5mp with full hd at least 720p with 30fps. IR and low light capability is very much a plus. Don't need ptz but need top of the line ip camera for project that digital zoom can determine facial aspects 50 ft out. Budget is open to about $2000-4000 per camera. Cameras must be POE This will be on cat 6 line on a gigabit switch attached to NVR. Any help or recommendations is greatly appreciated Thanks
  6. Have several axis cameras and connecting to synology NAS. Just curious if any of you have tried either the axis software or symbology software. Which would you go with ? Advantages of each? Disadvantages of each?

  8. I am in need of some advice on a good wireless repeater or bridge for a commercial application. If someone could recommend which route to take - either repeater or bridge - I would like some thoughts on either. I have a wireless N-network and need some additional coverage (50m) with walls and rooms so "line of sight" might be difficult for wireless repeater/bridge. Any thoughts or advice would be very helpful! thanks JDCaduceus
  9. Hey Everyone! I am excited to find this forum and was hoping to get some guidance from the group here. I already have an HTPC that I have connected to my home theater with a RJ45 to my switch. My switch (which does have 12 POE ports - gigabyte switch) is connected to my Router. My NAS, which has all of my movies and television shows, is about 30TB of space (10 bay NAS) running on Raid 10. I have wanted to do my own setup (as I think I am good with building systems and integrating them on a network) for a security surveillance system for my house. I can run cat 6 lines myself and am good on installing cameras (depending on fine tuning, focusing etc.). However I do need guidance on some setup for my system. My budget for this system is between $5k-7k. Here my questions: 1. NVR is where I want to go since I have a NAS and have about 30TB of space - I was hoping to have some guidance on this - is using the NAS the best way to go? WIll I still be able to see video remotely in real time even if NVR is recording on my NAS? I have a cable modem at highest speed - download 25-40 mb/sec and uploading 5mb/sec our around that. 2. As far as NVR on a NAS - I would appreciate some idea of setup. I dont mind purchasing a second NAS and setting that up solely for security system. That way I could have separate NAS for HTPC and one for CCTV - thoughts? 3. Firewall issues - If I do NVR with NAS - I have read where some people have created a different subnet mask for their IP cameras. I thought the entire network needed to be on the same subnet and you could provide static IP addresses for each camera so you could review them at any time remotely through your software - is that correct? 4. I am running windows 8 professional - do I need a different op system for setting up CCTV on NVR via NAS? 5. Cameras - I have researched these to the hilt. I would like 5mp B&W bullet camera on perimeters of my house with good quality NV via IR lights. I dont mind installing separate IR lights to help with illuminating the area - what brands have you guys reviewed that has this capability as NV and good quality are important to me??? I was looking at the Axis P3367-VE - I know its cost but was wondering if anyone had experience with this camera for a home security standpoint? Seems like with this Axis camera, I would not need any IR illuminators and I believe it has auto tracking (is this correct?). 6. Cameras - I have also looked a some cameras that are not bullet cameras but at 5mp that have auto tracking- I like this as it could mean I do not have to install as many cameras on each perimeter - but these auto tracking cameras are most color and I dont know if auto tracking is good for home security. Thoughts? 7. Software- I would like to find a name brand software that I can install on the security NAS - any recommendations? Is this possible? 8. Baby room setup - my wife and I are expecting and I want to put an IP camera in the baby room that is good quality and can also be added to my network - with remote viewing. However, my wife wants sound as well as video in case the baby is crying she can hear and attend to the baby. She is an avid runner and likes to run. So she asked me if there was a camera that we can install with sound that she can listen to on her iphone and she can hear and see the baby if something is wrong. Any ideas on what camera would be good for sound/video I can connect to this build? I would hate to buy these cheap baby cameras and monitors that some companies are pushing. Any advice on this? I was looking at the Axis P3364-LVE - as it has 2 way audio - does that mean my wife could hear and talk to the baby if she wanted to over iphone? I want to thank everyone in advance for any help and knowledge they can give me. Like I said, I have a good budget for this (this is my project my wife gave me to do before the baby is born) so I would like to do it right and with really good equipment as I have found in the past, you get what you pay for. Lastly - Does anyone know of a good Axis dealer that would give me a discount if I purchased all the cameras, accessories, and equipment from them? Unless everyone recommends another brand of camera. Thanks again JDCaduceus
