    Zmodo DVR origins.

Thanks 'ole' chap. Thought not....but do they or don't they? Guess only their hairdresser knows for sure. Cheers! Chisel.
  2. It may not be easy to stop a dedicated, determined hacker who has you as a specific target but would your basic network attract such skilled attackers in the first place? Seriously strong passwords (even if it means having to refer to them from a business card written on and stored in your wallet or other) are useful deterrents. Apply these to the router, DVR, NVR ....whatever has that capability in the network. The Samsung smart cams configured themselves? Cheers! chisel.
  3. I've been through the lists which other members have (thoughtfully) posted on original manufacturers and re-badges but don't recall seeing zmodo. Are DVRs really manufactured under this name ? Cheers! Chisel.

PC card based central monitoring set-up.

Tomcctv, no doubt you're right on the rapid rate of technology change. A few years ago I would be up to scratch on this through the trade literature but fell behind due to work, study and other issues. Cloud based: But wouldn't this be more a matter of storage and safety and directly related to video as opposed to alarm signals? I know that is where this investment will go if the venture is profitable but as it stands the dealer has only alarm accounts (steady growth) within about an 8 mile radius of hq and has to farm out monitoring accounts to third parties. He is losing the RMR which he can really use. The responsibility for specifying is with me so I have to come up with what will amount to a modest investment since I know from experience that they wont go for new stand-alone receiver prices.
  5. Can anyone recommend a quality Pc Card receiver and software for central station monitoring? This is a start up application where a dealer/installer will be monitoring burglar alarm accounts within a radius of a few miles initially. The plan is to expand if the investment looks sound and add video monitoring as the station grows. I have literature from a developer dating back a few years but they seem to have sold out to one of the giants who supply to the industry. Have done some searching but can't find anything really solid and what little is showing up has no indication of costs. Be grateful to hear from anyone who is currently using cards and software that they are pleased with. Regards.
  6. It appears that availability and prices change by the day. But what is currently available in a four channel network DVR, Priced between $200-$300 that is reported to work reasonably well? This is basically a training tool and I can't presently invest in premium performance or features. I'd especially like to set-up and view some level of remote video; perhaps using IE or similar. What do members have experience with and recommend?
  7. The following is hopefully a little help to anyone considering purchase of the Paladin CrimpAll 8000 and who may be asking the questions that I have. I am not recommending the purchase of any one tool over another but in fairness I have commented about the tardiness of Paladin's response to my enquiries and it is only just, that I report any change or information delivered. I received a fairly comprehensive e-mail reply from an official at Paladin on February 17th 2009. Included were brand names and ID numbers of several connectors that have been tested for use with the die-set #2034. Evidently, the dieset is designed based on the typical Hex Crimp Cavity used on the open market connectors. Paladin disclosed that they usually don't endorse any one specific connector and this is understandable. how much variance could there be in shape and dimension, amongst BNC male three-piece crimp connectors designed for attachment to RG-59 coax? My own conclusion without readily available brand-name samples is that this tool and specific die-set will crimp just about any of the commonly available connectors as specified above. I am obliged.
  8. Could any technician who uses the Paladin CrimpALL 8000, post the brand name and model no. of the BNC crimp connector he/she uses for RG-59 coax? I need only the three-piece version. Any compatible brand(s) and the specific order number on ID associated with them. The die set particulars are as follows: Die# 2034 Cable types: RG-58/59/62AU Connectors :BNC/TNC Crimp info(ins.).256"/.213"/068" Hex. The dealer from whom I purchased the tool, sent me the wrong BNC connectors in my order. I contacted them for the information I am now seeking. They choose not to respond. I then contacted Paladin;Close on two weeks and they too, have decided that they can't be bothered with customer service. I appreciate your assistance.

    'Interface' between camera and computer.

Tom, Thanks ole scout and I'm sorry I took so long to follow up. I'm spinning around like a top and couldn't even find where I posted this info request. The 'High Resolution' buzz words are the manufacturer's language not my own. The camera is ruputed to be producing some hefty numbers in this regard. Your notes make much sense and I will follow your suggestions. I must admit I have not heard of your firm before but probably because CCTV trade literature is like hens' teeth at my HQ. Anyhow I am obliged. May God Bless you and yours at this Christmas time.
  10. How does one get the video from a high resolution, low lux (analogue) camera, saved to a PC? I know there must be a simple answer to this but believe me, I can't find it. I'm hearing about servers, PC boards, that it's better to use digital cameras, that network cameras would be better etc. etc. But this application is simply that the one camera will be indoors, running at daylight hours with whatever light is available under the conditions. The camera will be running continuously and recording to an external hard drive at whatever rate is just enough to convey normal motion. Just one camera. What do I have to add to the PC to make the video recording? I know there must be dedicated software involved and some sort of hardware to be installed. But what would be considered standard in the industry and are you allowed to be specific in terms of brand names and model numbers on this forum? If so, I would be grateful for suggestions. Kind Regards to all. PS:- When I first started in alarms as a career change, I thought there could not be anything more confusing....I have to review that.
