  1. Not sure Hik NVR would record your D-Link cams.

    hello

Can't point you to general info, but I just found one i really like, esp. for $100'ish: search Hikvision DS-7108N-SN on aliexpress.com, english menus! just add a WD RED/PUR/YEL HDD for a budget NVR from a quality company Check camera compatibility

Hikvision DS-7108N Information - Good Buy?

I received NVR from that 1st linked vendor (vgood/7days total to US btw), DS-7108N-SN. On 2.3.6 FW, English ONLY max res seems only 1080p, i tried setting 2032 cam to 1500p, nvr lost signal. NVR is nice, but this fw lacks things like SINGLE FRAME +/-, and a few other very nice to have features (digital zoom is there but weak/disorganized, seems half implemented, not sure if this it tru on all Hik NVRs), Playback CALENDAR click didn't select correct date, i had to drag thru every day to get a week back. but for $100+HD! sold me (was on aliexpress sale 20 off 200, bought 2). Make sure your cams are supported, and go for it IMO. Since there is no fan in this unit, u might consider low power(cooler) 5400 rpm drive like WD RED, unless u can find PURPLE/YELLOW cheaper. Should be no prob to handle 8 cams / 50mbps (which is 7108 limit, I think 7608/7616 only have 40mpbs limit!) BTW, older firmware had probs working w/wireless USB mouse dongle, 2.3.6 works fine with K400 Logitech wireless combo. Double finger drag (mouse wheel emulation) scrolls NVR Timeline in playback mode (which you'll need, as the calendar on mine wasn't functioning).
  4. I've had the DS-7108n-sn (not P) for a few days, my first hik nvr. Seems like it works nicely for the price (paid $99/Aliexpress.com), not sure if there is any difference between this and DS-7608 software wise... (using w/TP-LiNK 4/8 PoE, and DS-2CD2032-i) it's on firmware 2.3.6, has only english. Firmware slightly limited, i can't figure out: - how to single frame step while reviewing recordings - where to get new firmware... - can't seem to include any of my old cams (foscam) I think this system relies on cam for motion detect, which is fine. NVR is not perfect, but for $99 for a dedicated linux nvr, seems viable.
