AVTECH AVC708 - movement detection problem

I don't know if you are still watching this thread Roger, but I've now been told by the supplier that this is the way the DVR works, and it will always record continuously even when there are no motion events. Strange but true.

AVTECH AVC708 - movement detection problem

I have another problem, connected with this. Trying to play through recorded motion events to review them is very difficult. You can't just play through a day's motion events. You can do an Event Search for motion events, and it will quickly find the first event of the day, but after that event is over it will keep playing with a blank screen until the next event - that might be minutes or hours away. You can speed up the playback and go through an hour at a time, but if the next event is a brief one you might skip right past and miss it. Alternatively you can go to List, then Motion, and you will see a list of events and you can select the next one - if you can remember which one is next, because the last one isn't highlighted. To do this through a number of events is very slow and frustrating. This DVR was advertised as a premium product, but I have to say the software is inferior to cheaper DVRs that I have used. For instance the Hikvision that I use at another site is far better, both at setting up individual channels and at playing back events. Is there anyone out there from AVTECH who would like to comment?

AVTECH AVC708 - movement detection problem

Hi Roger99 I think I know what is causing this. It looks like this DVR won't allow you to have Timer Record on some cameras and Motion Record on others. If you have Motion Record on a camera it will record as you would expect, just as long as Timer Record is turned off. But as soon as you turn on Timer Record for other cameras it over-rides the Motion setting and makes the Motion cameras record all the time. The only work-around I have found for this is to have all the cameras set for Motion Record, and have the motion settings all set to max sensitivity for the ones that you want recording continuously. But then you have them all recording 24 hours even if you don't want, and that soon fills up the hard disks. I know this sounds crazy, and I've never found another PVR that won't allow different settings for the channels. I'm hoping I've got this wrong and there is a way to do it that I haven't found. But it does sound like this is your problem as well. Unfortunately AVTECH have stopped their direct tech support, so perhaps they have someone on here who can help?
