  1. well now, that is very interesting and important. there will be some that are low. patio, right above garage, etc, so someone could knock them off. and some will be higher not reachable without a ladder. great info, thank you!
  2. beginning stage of replacing my home analog cctv system (dvr, cams, etc). got the cat6/550MHz cable pulled and in place. total IP cams won't exceed 16. ~10 outside and ~4 inside. want to ask this, is it recommended to use a DVR/NVR with PoE capability or get a seperate PoE/PoE+ switch ?

    looking for VMax-Flex upgrade

no recommendations for a step up better unit than a VMax Flex 4-channel, anyone?
  4. i have this unit VMax Flex 4-channel. i find the software, especially the "backup" function cumbersome. also, don't think the video is all that great. i've upgraded the cameras. quite new to video surveillance for home. would like to get a few recommendations for a better unit. even it its 8-channel. better imaging and more intuitive sw interface is what i'd like to get with a new unit. is this possible for under $500.00usd ?
  5. i'm out of ports on this DVR but i have a synology unit with surveillance app for ip cams. when i upgraded the 4 outside cams, that left me with 4 northern cctv cams. i thought if it weren't too expensive i could convert the sig for ip and use the synology app. but, this digital watchdog 4-channel vmax flex unit, i think i may upgrade. don't particularly like its software and i think, the video could be a better quality.
  6. looks like i would need one per cam. i think you're right. because the wiring is going through the attic and i don't have the bnc type cable but have a lot of ethernet. putting those little trend units in the attic that needs an a/c outlet and in the desert summer heat just seems a bit much. i'll see if hikvision has ip/poe cams thx
  7. i had installed some northern outdoors cams, "dtw212hir960". these have the bnc connectors into the dvr. the dvr has reached its max connections. i have a couple of extra cams i'd like to convert to "IP connected" if possible? like a converter or something not too costly. is there such a converter?
