Wired, Then the World Passed Me By??

Dang, I misread the costco one as being standard def bc I didn't see the HD CVI markings....newbie error FWIW, the unit I purchased was the 4 camera $211 one, but for $50 more I may take a look at that costco unit.

Well, I'll probably disappoint and maybe even upgrade later, but wanted to show everyone the courtesy they gave me in helping a newbie by following up. This ended up becoming a game of compromise, and I wend with a cheaper H960 system off Amazon for a few reasons: 1) It was H960, so relatively high res for analog and my wiring. 2) HD CVI seemed like a niche market, where I'd be all alone with any issues 3) 4 channel HD CVI would be double the price of H960 AND be an off brand vs Q-See. 4) I can return to Amazon or upgrade later and be out very little if I feel the need. 5) Amazon clearly sells a ton of these, so issues should be known. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I2N6NVC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

boogieman, I really like your suggestion of CVI/HDCVI. Seems to be the best option for someone looking to use existing wiring and still get a 720/1080p picture. Now my question is which direction to go with HDCVI, or if (as the link suggested) I'm just better off giving up the resolution for more mature user interfaces and cameras?

I hear ya. IMO we won't live here more than 5yrs, so economics and deterrence may be the driving factors. I like the idea on HD-CVI best of those presented. Affordable, and better than base analog. Any suggestions on kits? I know nobody here loves a kit, but I'm not sure I have lofty goals. I would like a decent interface, and easy web/phone access. This is ultra cheap. Issues? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KR9S8NU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A23TNQB4GVF91M
  5. So I had big plans to install a 4 channel exterior system 2.5yrs ago, and made 4 long pulls of "Siamese" coax/power cables from my home gateway area to 4 points in my soffits. Now it appears the IP/NVR is the way to go and they use cat6. I don't think I have the time to pull cat6, as much of the run goes behind drywall and painted trim. Can I still use newer tech, or am I confined to analog systems? Budget <$1000 Doubtful I'd Expand Past 4 Points Need Remote Monitoring/Alerts Would like to see a stream of "events" that triggered any motion. I have a couple nosy neighbors, one with dementia, one demented. Thanks in advance! I feel like I'm back to the drawing board with the IP tech.
