  1. Hello all, i have just installed a DS-7204HUHI-K1 with x3 DS-2CE56H1T-ITM cameras. I'm using Cat5 with baluns (cheap ones from eBay). Stupidly, i have one run of cable for 2 of the cameras (one pair video, one pair power on each), an on the single camera, one pair video with another pair power with the rest of the unused pairs "nipped" off. Cable runs are short, say 20 - 30ft Max Looking at the video output from a monitor connected to the NVR/ DVR the image is grainy an slightly pixelated (spelling?) could using baluns cause this? Should I be using coax & bncs? maybe im expecting too much?

    What to buy?

Hi thanks for the responses can anyone suggest a setup for me then please? Only looking for 3 cameras, 4 being the max. Would be nice to have the recordings be be available away from the house. I have about for 6TB purple WD drives unopened ready to install, so should be ok for storage how about DS-7204HQHI-K1 for the DVR & DS-2CE56F1T-IT3 for cameras? thanks

    What to buy?

Hello all I work in IT so pretty confident in my installation abilities but looking on Amazon/ eBay the choice of NVR and cameras are slightly overwhelming - and i have no experience of cctv at all Cameras I'm leaning towards are Hikvision DS-2CD2032-I 4mm, and NVR would be a Hikvision DS-7100NI then cat5 to each camera using either an injector or POE any good? thanks
  4. just a quick update, i have connected a mouse to the DVR an monitor via a vga cable, I have been able to get to the admin logon but cant go any further the web interface password is still the default admin/123456 but the local log on im unable to do anything with (it bombs with password incorrect) I have tried to identify the box but been unable to so far anyone help?
  5. just to add, I have just pulled the hard drive from the DVR an it has been recording, so it seems its just the interface im struggling with thanks
  6. Hello all Just installed a DVR (or is it a NVR?) in my loft with 2 cameras connected via baluns I'm unsure of the model of recorder as its unbranded - can have a look inside at the board if that helps? Any-ways, i have connected it to the network in my house and can access the web interface-ish I cant view any recorded video from the interface nor live video, I have tried with both Firefox and IE11 (with active X turned on etc..) when I log into the interface im given a dialogue box saying "Select the video stream to play - Auxiliary Video Main Video" choosing any brings up the message "The Quicktime player is needed. Do you want to download" if you select ok it takes to a dead apple page. I have installed quicktime but still no good any ideas please? thanks

    New install - bad image

cheers for the replies... i only one socket in the loft, so i'm having to use a 4 gang extension lead (with surge protector) power supply to the camera is a 12v 5amp switching psu thing with a 1 - 4 splitter for the different cameras i used the orange pair for the video, an brown for the power, i snipped off the unused pairs there is nothing else using mains up in the loft so hopefully nothing to interfere with it.
  9. Hello all just installed my first cctv install in my house, DVR is located in the loft an have two 1200 floureon cameras, connected to cat5e using passive baluns to the DVR. the cable runs are about 15 - 20ft max before i installed the cameras, i tested them connected to the DVR (using baluns etc) an they worked great. But since fitting them, the image is poor cable i used is JSL 100% copper utp cat5e 24awg 100% bare solid copper conductor (well thats what it says on the spool) i work in IT so have loads of it any ideas? thanks
