Thanks guys. I do have trailcams on the farm but the thought of getting CCTV was purely so we could get live shots and then sneak the kids to a position where they could actually see the animals. Ive ended up buying some trail cams that send a PXT to my cell when they take a photo but I'm not sure if they will work until I test the reception up on the farm. The other down side is that each PXT cost 50 cents.......dont want to have trees triggering this thing too much

Hi, I went into Dick Smith who were absolutely useless. I run youth camps and father/son camps on a farm in Kaikoura. We (the youth and the dads) have built small huts around the farm which they can use to camp out. No power, water out of a stream and cooking on a fire. Its right up in the hills so no power, wifi, data or cell coverage at the huts. The idea with the cameras was to set them up using batteries on some clearings where animals sometimes come out and have them transmit pictures to the hut (about 100 - 300m away) where the kids can watch them. Looks like its probably not going to work unfortunately. I hunt the farm with my kids but when you have 20 young lads laughing and playing there's no way they will see any animals so this was a way for them to stay away from the area but still see animals in the wild. I also looked at the parabeam but it dosent transmit pictures. Thanks again, Rick

Hi all, I'm re-posting this in the cctv section after getting no replies in the "General" section. I'm Rick from New Zealand and have been googling this question for weeks as well as visiting electronic shops where the assistants really have no idea. Then I stumbled across this forum and thought.......these guts will know. I have a farm where I run youth camps. There is no wifi or cellular reception on the inner part of the hill area on the farm. In that area we have built huts where we run youth camps and what I am wanting to do is set up wireless cameras within about 300m of the hut and have a receiver in the hut. I'm not worried about the power side of the cameras or receiver as we will run them individually off DC batteries as we don't have mains power. However, I'm unsure if these CCTV systems require a wifi network or data/cell coverage to communicate between the camera and receiver/viewer. Part of what we do is take kids goat hunting but when we have 30 odd kids its impossible to hunt as they are way too noisy. Thats where I thought we could set up cameras and as we are in the hut we could also watch to see if any animals come out onto the clearings, just so the kids can see them.
