  1. I have 2 of the Swann NVR460 systems and while the cameras themselves are fantastic, great picture quality, great audio quality for what it is, but the NVR itself is a huge POS. 1 system the NVR died. I replaced it. It too, died, the POS. The other system, all motion recording stop working and only way to record is 24/7. That would be fine if the damn thing indexed motion, but it doesn't do that. So, after 5 years of fartin' around, it is time to replace both units. Wondering thoughts on systems that are under $200. Or am I way underpriced? Don't mind spending a few $$$ more as long as it is a reliable system.
  2. I'm not sure. I don't use Apple anything. I'm not sure what you mean the cameras work (sometimes) when the NVR is wired directly to the router. My best suggestion is to follow what I wrote earlier. Be sure to 'SYNC' the cameras: Hope this helps.

Aposonic dvr's good to go or junk?

I have a Aposonic A-S0401R21SL along w/WD Purple 1 TB HDD and I, for the most part, like it. I haven't fiqured out yet why on earth there is only one audio input though. There is a learning curve for the programming but basically it is plug 'n play. Still trying to figure how to setup remote viewing via the internet. Instructions are horrible. Great and inexpensive for your first learning type DVR/NVR. I can say this, the ZOSI 1/3" 800Tvl 960H 24Ir Lens Security Surveillance Cctv Camera Had Ir Cut 4.6mm Lens High Resolution Outdoor Weatherproof works well with my unit.
  4. Maybe Mic will help ? I put a mic in with the Talos camera...
  5. Weird. I get the spider webs here on my house, but my sons place, nada. I ended up placing the NVR in the attic... Now, all 3 cams are picked up immediately without any dropouts as of yet (knock on wood). My only concern is with the heat, will see how long the HDD lasts in that extreme.
  6. I was just saying what I am using, not sure I'd recommend for night viewing. And the TV is a 73" so lots of light.
  7. I am using a small Talos MCP650. I too can't have visible IR, but fortunately a TV is usually on or a computer monitor so never really need for pitch black. I will follow this thread for suggestions however.
  8. OK...I have not one but TWO of these systems, and have spent literally many hours going thru a learning curve since I had never before used/installed/maintained a surveillance system before. However, all my hours have brought forth the fruit these systems offer and I hope to help you out. The information available on these is bismal at best. Alrighty then, you just want to get the cameras linked to the base station (NVR), correct? This is VERY simple. Connect the NVR to a monitor/TV. Go to system > maintenance > RESTORE. This will completely reset the NVR to factory. Now, connect the NVR to your router using the cat5 cable. Plug in the cameras to the wall, and you should be getting all the cameras. Now, if you want to have the NVR wireless, do this: while still connected to the router, and you have a picture from all cameras at the same time, go into the wifi section of the menu and switch from 'AP' to 'STATION' and to 'STATIC' to keep the ip # the same. THEN, you need to click on the camera icon at the bottom in the menu. Place a check next to each camera and then click on 'SYNC'. This will sync all cameras to the NVR. Disconnect the cat 5 cable from the NVR and you should see a signal strength meter at the top right corner of the monitor, indicating the NVR is operating via wifi. You should also have all cameras showing with signal strength meters at the bottom left corner of each camera frame. This sets you up to get going. Then you need to tweak and tweak the MOTION settings for sensitivity and other things. But the point of this reply is just to get you up and running. To view online/away from camera/NVR location, we can discuss AFTER you get the basic steps successfully. PS...if you want the NVR wired (I suggest not to unless there is no issue with wifi reception for the cameras) keep the setting 'AP' and then SYNC cameras. It is critical, no matter which method you use (wired or wifi) for the NVR, that you SYNC the cameras. SHould you choose the wifi method, it seems the camera wifi reception is improved, at least in my house. We can get into NVR location for best/most consistent performance, later. Quick background - I have a handicapped child that has moved into his own (subsidized) apartment/townhouse in another town. A state case worker was caught in the apartment when no one was there. Cue the NVR-460 system I found at Sams Club for $190. Installed, got the learning curve down, and now I am notified of ANYONE coming or going, front and rear, and also all is recorded. As frustrating as the learning curve is (I can't imagine any system is different for 1st timers) I must admit, I love the system. So much so that when my work van was broken into in my own driveway, I immediately hit-up Amazon and got a second system. Extra cameras I have only been fortunate to find, only once. From Home Depot online. I think I got the last 2 they had as they are unavailable there now. I tried the NVR-470 camera from Wal-Mart, and while it did link up, the colors from both 470 cameras was weird. They were returned. So my sons system and mine we each have 3 cameras. I really hope this helps you, if you are still looking for the help.

    BNC to RCA problem

Possibly a bad BNC to RCA adaptor. Get a volt meter and see what kind (if any) voltage is being output. I have no other ideas at the moment.

Can a SSD be used in a Swann...

Dude...let it go. You wanted to belittle me from the get go and you did a fine, admirable even, job at doing so. You are to be commended. " title="Applause" /> Now let it go. You can go belittle another new member, now.

Wow, what a child. I'm guessing under 20? Call the teacher asap. You were not belittled. You were being rude and subsequently called out on it. No. You are, and have been, the aggressor in all of your posts that I went thru. I did go thru some of your posts. You seem to think you are an internet badass that is superior to anyone. You call people liars, claim that people [except yourself of course ] all have agendas to not be truthful. You are not being truthful about saying you are not belittling, when you have proven yourself to be an ass, from post to post. By the way, your guessing is about as accurate as your own self description...horribly wrong. The easiest thing for you to do, is to just stop replying, especially when requested to. But I'm sure you know better.

Good grief. How do I block the boogieman clown, that feels he is far superior, from replying to my posts? I have already made it known that I do not wish for him to respond and yet, here he is, trying to prove he is superior in every way, by constant belittling. Admin?

OK. Because I didn't word it the way YOU wanted, I am a wiseguy x2...Had you not been attempting to belittle me, which is what you are doing again with your post, Boogieman, you would have seen what I needed. If you are not willing to take the entire 3 seconds it takes to highlight and search google then why are you here? Just to belittle people like me? Please do not respond to anything I might post here as I don't care if you do have the right answer, I don't need it from you or any comment from you, actually. Have a nice life.

Can a SSD be used in a Swann...

Haven't found a 2.5" one yet. No reason to be a wiseguy. If your nvr does not support a 3.5 drive, get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236600 ..there is ZERO benefit to ssd for these NVR's...instead of wasting your money on an SSD, get a better NVR....but im sure you know better... Shame on you for attempting to belittle me. How am I supposed to know what is needed? I am here asking what I needed. Don't attack me because you failed to read the post or understand what I was asking. I gave you the model # of my system. Had I been generic and asked for any old system, the WD Purple suggestion would have been (and is) an excellent suggestion...I guess. I looked for your suggestion and didn't find a 2.5" one. And for me stating that, I am labeled a "wise guy"? Nice way to treat a new guy coming here for advise. Real nice, "Boogieman". "

You will not see any improvement with the ssd...get a wd purple. Haven't found a 2.5" one yet.
