Why can't we make a balun?

There is no uniform criterion in test of baluns. To majority, test is simple and just check the pictures by eyes. But that is enough. If you test them strictly, the test will cost a lot, but the differences are not very obvious. Some baluns made in China are qualified and competitive in prices. Infact, a lot of named or unnamed baluns are from China, the "world factory".

    newbie here

200ft is quite a short distance, the environment is clear, and the unbalance signal loss a little in transmission. So there is image on screen.

Why can't we make a balun?

The big magnetic flux of the magnet in the coil is very important.
  5. Yes, there is little differece between various passive baluns that belong to different brands, not only in the outhousing, but also in the feature. But when you open the outhousings, or in a long period of time, you may find they are different. The differences of features between active baluns are more obvious than that of passive ones. Just my experience.
  6. You may test the resistance of the wire. For a Cat5 cable, if the resistance of a wire exceed 10Ohm/100m, the quality of the cable is poor.

    Balun Recommendation

Hi, Kao, if you would like to have a try with UTP Baluns that made in China, you may turn to me. Some of Chinese-made baluns is beyond what you think in performance. The prices are still competetive.
