My new hikvision multi language from China on 5.3.3 lasts about 1-2 days and crashes. I'm recording using samba. Is there some kind of system log I can look at??

Oh okay, So 3 axis is needed if I wall mount a dome camera with the dome facing out? I also researched and see that i can use NFS to dump the video to my server on the local network. So that will work.

I want it to send the recordings to a hidden laptop running freebsd with an ftp server. Also is this camera good enough to pick out a license plate out front of my house, say if they park in my driveway? I don't want some piece of junk where you can't make anything out. My research so far has told me 3mp 1080 should be sufficient? Thanks Tyler
