Gated Community ... HDCVI or Fiber??

Their cable company actually ran internet to their service box by the gates. They had a router in there which makes things a whole lot easier. they want the cameras mounted on lighting poles 20 ft away. I was thinking instead of cutting the asphalt to run wire i would use a wifi bridge and steal power from the street light poles but they run on 40 amp breakers right? By code we can only hook up low voltage to 20 amp breakers, is this correct? Even if code allowed me to do that it would cost an additional 6-700 dollars ( weatherprrof enclosure, poe switch, ups, wifi bridge) so i told them they'd be better off cutting through the asphalt.
  3. Im trying to get a camera installed at gates half mile away from the internet source in a town home community. i cant use wireless because of tree obstruction. I found this product https://www.patton.com/ethernet-extender/ and am wondering if anyone has heard of it or used it before?

System design tips for a complete newbie

If for example you're viewing your cameras on your phone that's connected to an unsecured wifi at starbucks the remote viewing app on your phone might send the credentials in clear text for all i know.... Without complicating things too much just get a router that supports vlan (virtual lan). Each port on the router could be its own virutal (isolated) local network. One port would be for your TV and another for your DVR so if someone does hack your dvr they won't be able to hack your smart tv's , baby monitors or computers. while they might get the camera footage, thats all theyll get. Only workaround for that is too always update firmware or just keep them offline. Easier but more expensive option would be to get a separate ISP account just for the cameras. For Hikvision and most others you can set it up to get e-mails. If you want sms just give it your phone numbers email e.g 555-555@txt.att.net and you will get an sms. If I go the this route - I can still use the same interent connection, just connect the DVR router before the home/office network? Or should I get a separate ISP for the surveillance? Also, can a DVR support SMS notification or calling my number, or do I need a separate device/module for that?

Why would you want to connect smokes to a DVR? Those are LIFE safety devices and should be connected to something more reliable like a fire alarm system or burglar alarm system at least. I've never hooked up smokes to a dvr so i dont know the answer to that but i'd go with an 8ch hikvision dvr or nvr and vpn router like you said but unless youre connected to a vpn on your phone, tablet or computer where you are viewing your cams remotely a vpn router would be pointless. if youd dont trust the software on the dvr or cameras then why trust the remote viewing software? i wouldnt use the same passowrds you use for your important account logins. A better option would be to get a router with virtual lans and connect your cameras to a seperate network from your home or work network. if you want to spend the money get axis cameras or dvr. they are the top most secure as far as security gets with cameras. good luck!

Web service PHP for IP Camera Hikvision

    look in zoneminder forums..
  7. Hello, i was asked to put a couple cameras up in a gated community at the back gates. They want to be able to read the license plates of the cars coming in and going out. Some times cars tailgate to get in... From the back gates to the club house ( where the communications are) is about 0.5 miles away. There are trees along the whole route with NO line of sight. They said they ran wire along the road a few years back to future proof everything. I have to find out what kind of wire it is, they did not know at the time. rg6 rg59...or fiber? Here are a list of things i know so far... 1. Ethernet is out of the question unless i put a switch up every 1000ft with a poe booster at each end. ( on a pole or something) not likely! 2. If they have rg6 or 59 run all the way i can get some kind of booster and hopefully a 1080p analog license plate camera will transmit quality image that long distance. 3. There is NO line of sight so there is no way to get ubiqiti point to point wireless working. 2.4ghz will be noisy in a town home community. 4. Fiber will be the best bet but expensive. How hard is it to run fiber/cable in the existing PVC that runs 0.5 miles down the road given there is some room? I don't want to give up on this project but it's not looking to easy. ANY suggestions will be much appreciated. Thank you.
  8. I think messing with iptables will help you if youre able to get root with telnet, make a backup of everyhitng you modify just in case.. https://www.systutorials.com/816/port-forwarding-using-iptables/ ... if you have any luck let us know. I will try to mess around with it later on.

    Install 20 cams and quote

Hello, i was asked to install a camera system for a 2000sqft quick mart store. The customer wants 5 outdoor cams and 15 indoor. He wants to be able to record for up to 3-4 months and have audio recording indoor. Seems excessive to me but the more the merrier for me $.. I planned to use UNV Ip cam system. 32ch POE NVR 32GB hdd. I quoted him at a little over $7500usd total, equipment costing a little over $5000-5500usd. can anyone tell me if my quote or plan for the system couldve been improved? thanks. edit: the customer told me someone quoted him at $2000usd for install and equipment. its kind of hard to believe even if they got a swan or lorex system..
