    POE 12v or 48v?

ok, so if a camera is 12v and it supports POE then it can use the standard 48v that networks usually have right?

    POE 12v or 48v?

Thinking about a little 4 port POE switch. They come without power so you add the adapter you need. Are these an actual network switch? One seller said to use 48v for 12v camera: If your camera is with word “12V/PoE” as this picture shows, then please select 48V Power Adapter, do not select 12V Power Adapter. Because "12V/PoE" means it can offer power supply to camera via 12V DC port or 48V PoE Ethernet port: If it's just for camera it could be 12v right? Thanks

Yeah that camera is obviously a manual operated pan and tilt deal, has a screw you have to loosen. But the title is PTZ. I think it lost something in translation.

Could you look at this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1080P-HD-AHD-VARIFOCAL-2-8-12MM-2MP-PTZ-CCTV-SECURITY-CAMERA-IR-NIGHT-NTSC-V1V3-/322458360510?hash=item4b14041abe:g:JzMAAOSw32lYz6~X It says it has varifocal but then it says it has 2.8-12mm manual zoom. They're talking about manual in that you have to be there and manually zoom in with the controls on your computer software? Thanks

I'm finding when I get everything I want the price is up to $600 or so. Think I have to start small and work my way up. Wife isn't going to go for $600. There's some pretty nice looking $100 camera's out there. Thanks

Thanks I was looking at the Hikvision camera's. What would they say if you can move them around remotely, pan tilt? Most seem to be manually adjustable, same with the lens. Some say: 2.7mm-12mm motorized lens That would be cool but I would need the ability to move it around also. I was thinking the one camera I get with two motorized functions could be wired to save money. What's dual stream, like the ability for two people to use it at the same time? Thanks

I'm bogged down by all the possibilities trying to pick out camera's! Trying to avoid the school of hard knocks of camera buying. I was wanting to make a system that used the computer to record with. I can have a wired camera on the building I live in then 2-3 out on the property. The wired one I want to have pan tilt, the others can be bullet fixed cams. I think I shouldn't have anything less than 3MB. Maybe my network would support hi res streaming, have to try that and see. The AP and Bridge are 300mb class CPE. Thinking Blue Iris...

    Dome camera installation

From looking at them I thought a dome would be good over time in the weather, guess you have to get out and clean them once in a while? Plus you're always seeing through the dome... Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Hikvision-Outdoor-Turret-Camera-features/dp/B00GYHEG0S
  11. I have a wired/wireless network and I want to buy a camera and software to view/record on Windows computers. Any info appreciated. Thanks

Hi from a newb on cctv knowledge

No one here but us newbies. It's hard to learn from ad's. I'd like a good reference about a lot of these concepts. I'm wanting to know what to buy but I think there is so much new stuff out there you can't go by reviews etc. Like these dome camera's, How do you know if they have a motor and you can move them around with your software. Some places say tilt and pan on them and some have how many degrees they can move but some you can move them around manually when you set them up and they stay that way. Looks like Blue Iris is the way to go with software.

    Hello from SoCal

I set up a wireless network on a rural property. So I have an internet connection and send it to the other houses. Works good. Security camera's seem really nice now days so thinking about getting into that. Need IP camera course for dummies! Couldn't find FAQ in computers and networking. Need to figure out what sort of camera's and software to get to have live view and motion recording with PC windows. Nice site!
