  1. Does anyone know anything about the Reolink cameras? They are on Amazon and appear to be pretty good quality compared to the competition; also they appear to be the highest rated based on reviews from customers at the moment. I'm torn between Hikvision and Reolink, Hikvision seems to be somewhat the industry standard but Reolink, at least on paper seems to have better specs and better customer reviews. So far I'm planning on the following system: NVR - Windows 10 with Blue Iris POE Switch - Netgear ProSafe Gig POE switch Cameras - 3 bullet outdoor cameras (Hikvision or Reolink) PTZ Camera - 1 PTZ camera for the backyard
  2. That looks like overkill since this is just for my house. I've decided to just build my own system with a POE switch, IP cameras, and Blue Iris software.
  3. I installed some older 480TVL BNC CCTV cameras about 6 or 7 years ago and I think they all still work (more on that in a minute). What I am looking for is a Tribrid DVR that will support the older cameras but still let me upgrade to newer IP cameras if I so choose. The frustrating part is that out of the 7yrs I have had the cameras installed, I've had a working DVR for only about 3 of those years. I have gone through 4 DVRs so far, they all have had terrible instructions, cheaply made internals, and web interfaces from the 90's, not to mention having to install some Chinese ActiveX control with admin rights; no telling what else that software is doing. Within a year or two they have each died in some new and mysterious way so I have not had a working DVR for about 3yrs now; I can only guess that the cameras still work. Every now and then I will see the IR LEDs glowing at night so I'm guessing they will work if I connect them to a DVR. What I am looking for is very simple; I want a Tribrid that has a modern web interface, preferably using HTML5 so that it works in any browser and does not need an ActiveX control, quality electronics that will last longer than a year, at least 4 analog ports for my legacy cameras, 1080P NVR, Onvif IP camera compatible, and supports up to a 6TB SATA HD. Icing on the cake would be at least a 3yr warranty and responsive tech support. I do not intend to make the system remotely accessible, I am a computer systems security engineer; if only people knew how horrendous the security was for these DVRs they probably would rethink their approach as well. With that being said, the web interface is very important to me, so ideally the web interface is user friendly. I have been scouring Amazon for days now looking at the options and it seems nothing has changed since the last time I went through this drill; the only choices are bad and worst. If anyone has recommendations for a high quality product that meets some or all of my requirements I would greatly appreciate it. Cost is not an issue, I have no problems paying more for quality.
