Newbie with DNS questions

Thank you. In general, do most people here allow there vendor/installer to establish & maintain their domain name? If so, I figure the price included a setup fee and yearly (or bulk) maintenance for the domain registration? Or is it preferable to register and pay for your own? Still kinda new at this. Thanks again!
2. Hi - looks like a lot of great help and info is here! Hope someone can help me with a few basic questions. I have an 8-camera Optivision DVR/NVR which is working fine, I can access the system directly or via IP address on my home network. My problem seems to be with remote access via DNS. I would expect to be presented with the DVR login screen. Instead, I get a page offering to sell me a domain name - which my vendor was supposed to do last year. 1. Does anyone know anything about the Optivision DVR? Who makes it, etc? 2. I was supposedly registered at 'myname'.dvrdyns.com for a remote access url. 3. Port Forwarding is set up for the DVR in my router for a specific dedicated IP on my network. I can see that device when I ping (good pings) it and also when scanning devices. 4. SO far, basic tests on my domain name show it to be working and active, but has SOA alerts, which I gather to be Start of Authority. The tests also report some weird IP addresses which I don't recognize, and connected to something called ns2.parkingcrew.net. Thanks for any info to help me figure this out, while I WAIT for my installer tech to be near my neighborhood! Gary
