Brand new to surveillance - hikvision DVR

Thought I would post an update here, as I figured out my issue. The first camera I got, I setup as a stand alone camera with username/password. When I got my DVR I could connect to my camera - if it was on my main network connecting with the username/password. However, when I moved that camera to the POE ports on the DVR directly the plug-and-play mode could not connect, staying invalid username/password or something. Makes sense since I set the username/password on the camera and in plug-and-play you don't define a username & password. So the fix was to reset the camera that I defined the username/password on, then when plugged into the DVR ports directly it instantly configured the camera with the plug-and-play feature. Makes perfect sense now... but was not so clear initially to a noob like myself.
  2. Yes, I got them working. Getting them working was not the issue, the issue is my understanding how how all these pieces fit together and understanding the features and GUI. There are really a lot of options with this stuff, I am at the very beginning to understanding exactly what these things can do. I don't know why everyone thinks cameras purchased from China are fake, you know it is a Chinese company right? Since I got no reply on the other thread, I will answer my own question there in case other noobs like myself have the same issue in the future. I think I saw you previously post about fake Rolex watches from China in relation to the grey market cameras? If you open a fake Rolex, you know instantly it is fake. If you open one of these Chinese cameras can you tell they are also fake? I'm willing to open mine and take detailed photos if anyone has a genuine one to compare it to.
  3. I purchased the hardware assuming I could/would not upgrade the firmware. They were sold as genuine and firmware upgradable. If Xinray really is selling genuine hardware and are comfortable with sending me a replacement if it is bricked when I do the upgrade I will try it. I am expecting they will not reply to this thread, and I will have my answer - use as is but don't upgrade. If they do reply to this thread and the upgrade goes as it is supposed to it is good advertising for Xingray and many people on here will know the hardware they are selling is legit. P.S. I mentioned I could get THREE cameras for the price of one, not two.
  4. This is a very interesting thread for me - because I am new to cameras (building my first setup for a small apartment building) and I actually just recently ordered from Xinray. I could not resist the price of the cameras, I can get three cameras for the price of one from the USA. What is better, a camera with a warranty or 3 cameras with no warranty? For me it was 3 for the price of one, wins every time. I ordered a single camera first, got it - looks legit and works. I then ordered a 2nd camera (different model) and a DVR which I just got the 2nd shipment today. I was well aware that they could be grey market or maybe totally counterfeit, but I had no plans to upgrade the firmware and find out... They work now, no need to upgrade the firmware. Since this thread is so new, I can make an offer here to the users reading this and Xinray. To satisfy everyone in this thread, I will: * Take photos of myself with the cameras so the doubters know I am not an Xinray employee (I'm white, not Chinese) * Upgrade the firmware If the upgrade goes well (I could even video tape the upgrade) I will post my findings here. However, I will only do this if Xinray agrees. If my cameras don't work after the upgrade, Xinray needs to send me a new camera. Obviously I'm very curious to know if I can actually upgrade the firmware, but will only do this if Xinray agrees to send me a new camera if the firmware upgrade does not work. So what do you say Xinray?
  5. Excuse my limited understanding, I'm brand new to this stuff. I bought a stand alone Hikvision camera, set it up with a password and accessed it via iVMS-4500 and iVMS-4200 on PC. I powered this camera with a PoE switch. Next I wanted to try a 2nd camera and decided to also purchase the Hikvision DS-7608NI-I2 since I plan on building out a 6 camera system. Now things start to get confusing for me. The DVR does POE and assigns IP addresses to the devices directly connected. So that means I can't connect direct to the camera (unless the DVR routes to its private network range???). I tried to setup one camera, through the remote configuration in the iVMS-4200 software. If I set it to plug-and-play as the adding method, I get an error incorrect username and password. If I set the adding method to manual and supply the username & password I get an error about unable to reach network. I've gone through the manual, which is very large at 300+ pages but I actually find it to say very little I can understand. Can someone give me an overview of how cameras are supposed to be setup when used with the DVR?
