Good evening, bought a Avtech AVC760m and I do backups through Lan but not working.
I configure everything well and even with the network connection with the unit but the conveying of information is very low and when I try to backup drops the connection.
Thank about this problem.

There are several languages available. I hope there is one for you.

We have used the AV760 many times to perform backup over LAN but never had any problems. If you are able to connect to the DVR from your PC, then network settings should be OK.

Have you connected the DVR directly to the PC or via a router?

If you are doing backup through a router, then try connecting the DVR directly to the PC and test if download is better. If it is then your router could be causing the problem.

If the download is still slow when connected direct to PC then there could be a problem with the DVR. In this case you can try to upgrade the firmware or return to where you buy the machine from.

Hi, mine works fine, but I would like to back up ALL the hard drive via network, and the software I got with it only allows for me to enter a time and a date, and a figure in MB.

Do you know of some other software that would allow this.

I think this is what you want.

Go to page 38 of your manual.

This will send motion activated video to your computer. You will now have a remote copy of your "hard drive" of your DVR.

What size is your hard drive in your computer?

FTP (pg 38 )

When the recording is triggered by an
alarm or a motion, a video copy file
can be captured. And the DVR will
upload the captured images to the
assigned FTP site.

Enter the detailed FTP information.

I hate to admit this, but I think the manual was on a CD and I have lost it, I'll download a copy.

Thats kinda what I want, but I dont use the motion capture because of where I have had to put my camera it fires off far to much.

I dont suppose there is a way that I can configure a backup so it uploads all the system recordings to an ftp on my lan, that would be very good.

I dont have a monitor on my DVR and I veiw it on my laptop via my lan.

I also have a 2TB file server with loads of space on it, and would like that to store the DVR backup.

The drive on the DVR is only 160GB.

As what Umpa had mentioned, we can't do a backup over the LAN with the client software provided.

I tried to backup the harddisk(mine's a 500GB) to an external hard disk(also 500GB) via the USB port but there seems to be a problem for the DVR to recognise it (No problem with a 512MB USB drive though).
Not sure what is the problem but would appreciate greatly if you can help me to resolve this.

There are several backup software in the market running on WIndows with the capability to backup other computers in the network but I'm not sure if they work for DVR as well.

Anyone has any experience in that?

I am really confused about your request.

You say that you want to copy your hard drive to a another computer.

You do not want to use motion activation as the cameras record constantly due to a lot of activity in front of the camera/cameras.

Where I am confused is that there is so much information on the hard drive that motion detection will help decrease the amount of information recording to the hard drive.

This means that you are not using motion detection, and that you have it set to record 24/7.

If you say that a DVD movie is about an hour that means you are going to have to watch 24 DVDs a day!! Whew! I do not have that kind of time!!

The DVR is a proprietary system, and it is not like a computer that is set up for plug, and play. The DVR is designed to be the storage medium, and I do not understand why you would need a secondary storage system.

If you require a secondary storage system then "security is of the essence". This DVR may not be the device you will need for your application.

If budget is of the essence then this DVR will fit that application perfectly.

I would not want to use a Geo Tracker for a professional offroad racing vehicle where millions of dollars are at stake in prize money!!

Then again I am not buying $50,000 Hendricks block to put in to my daily driver vehicle!!

I will need more information as to why you need to have a secondary storage system. I would remove the 160 GB HD, and I would put a larger one in it's place.

If security is of the essence, and motion detection does not work for your application then can you use an external motion detector, or can you use a "beam" system to trigger recordings on your DVR??

If security is of the essence perhaps a different recording device should be used instead of the AVTech DVR?

Would a PC based DVR that can mirror a hardrive via USB, Wireless, or IP protocol be a better choice for you?

Ok I'll try to explain

The DVR is simply set to record, this is because the motion detection has far to many trigger events to be able to go through. This way the system breaks the recording down to 24 hourly segment which is far easier to manage.

The dvr usually only gets looked at after an event eg. car scratch. then I would go back to the last time the car was OK and fast forward till today. Once I see whats happned I can make a network backup.

The problem is that the backup takes ages to download and I have to give a figure in MB as to how long the backup recording is going to be (not an ideal solution) Also viewing the system via the network software is not good due to the poor quality and frame rate of the image. (i use a wireless laptop) altho the downloded recording is very good.

I was wondering if the unit or software could be programmed to 'download' an hours worth of system recordings every hour (this software would be on my server). I could then stream the hour long video segments to my laptop (like I do with divx)

Then I could simply keep the 1 hour video I need and delete the rest.

I would imagin the system does not do this, but I feel sure that some software could be made to do pre-programmed network backups.

Well.. of course you can write your own program to do that, but is it worth the effort ?
As i always like to say... anything is possible with a price, so, what's your budget ?

AVTech DVR doesn't support USB Harddisk, only USB Thumbdrive up to a certain size. And the USB Backup and LAN backup takes dammm long... sometimes longer than real time, i.e. 1hr backup takes > 1hr.

For your case, why not just run the video server software, set it to Login Record, so it'll record a copy on your desktop as well. But it'll only do for quad, you can't really enlarge the camera after recording it to your desktop.

What's wrong with just ftping the whole chunk of data to your desktop anyway ? Set it to motion upon sensor, and then set a relay to switch close the sensor every hrs, and then it'll just upload lor (NO Type).
