HI everyone, A newbie here so apologies if i make any ba**s ups!
I currently am in the market to purchase a DVR card for my pc in order to have my current cameras linked up.
What should i be looking for : 1st the DVR card? Whats spec ?
2nd The Pc processor, what would be suitable ?
I would like to be able to pick up peoples faces or other finer details such as car reg plates ?
Any one out there who knows what i need ?
I dont want need a "top notch" system, but something that works well
Many thanks everyone
Best regards from Sunny North Wales UK

Welcome to the forum, what sort of cameras do you currently have (are they recorded and if so onto what?).
Can you make out fine details on the current cameras?

Thanks for the welcome.
I have a few cameras at present. My two main ones are of good quality and the other two are of a lesser quality but still give a reasonable picture.
I currently do have a DVR card in my spare PC but the quality of either the card or PC has down graded the quality of the picture from the cameras!!
The card i have in it at present is only a cheap one (£12.50 Ebay special !!) but i really dont know what sort of money i would be looking at to gain quality rather than quantity if you know what i mean. I would like to pick up faces rather than a blur when you zoom in.
Also, would it also be down to the cheap card the fact that when dark, car headlight 'blind' the whole image and cannot see the car properly. I only have two small IR lamps on one of the cameras but they do not cover a large area.
My main cameras are SAMSUNG SDN-520P which are in the larger steel housings.
Hope this helps
Best regards
Justin

cos140:First, you can connect the camera directly to the TV,you can contrast the picture quality with that connecting to the DVR cards.so you can find what result in the bad picture,DVR cards or the cameras.according to your description,i think the main reason is the cheap DVR cards.
Second:if you can see the car or other things in the day clear but not in the night by the cameras,it shows the camera you bought can't work in the dark,it's irrelevant with the DVR cards.

I feel as though the AverMedia cards are the best solution, many arguments for Geovision or Avermedia on this forum,
I love the Avermedia especially with the new software that has face recognition - people counter - great searchability.
