I have been reading through the forum and decided to ask your opinions on what camera I should purchase.

Hopefully this will make sense.

This may seem odd but as a personal experiment I am going to monitor the downstairs of my house(kitchen, dining room, living room, and computer room) and have the video viewable by anyone via the internet.

I know a lot about the computer/server side of things but I am clueless when it comes to cameras (are security cameras as easy to interface to a computer as a web cam?).

I'm not positive If i need something along the lines of security cameras or high quality web cams. Please get me pointed in the right direction.

What I need the camera/s to do:
Price the lower the better but not too much of a concern.
Decent quality.
Resolution of at least 640x480.
Night and Day(will be used indoors).
Focus from approx 5 to 30 feet away.

Thanks for your time.
:D

The question is:

How much will you charge them on the internet, or how much will you make?

Spend your money accordingly.

If you are doing this for free then you will have to start cheap, and then upgrade as you go.

If webpage hits mean anything then you will need to use high quality to start with.

Where do you stand, and what is your budget, and how much are you willing to spend total?

QUESTION: Why is there always enough time to go back and fix it right a second time??

Thanks for the reply.

As of right now I would like to start with one camera. This way I can get all the kinks worked out and get a feel for it.

I would be going for quality and anything under 400 USD per camera would be great.
