Hardware factory reset for DVR?

Recommended Posts

I have purchased on Ebay a No Name H.264 DVR (circuit board #GM8182T)with v01.00.00.32(4CIF 128M) as firmware, I installed all the cameras and set it up and as it got dark outside I noticed the video (nite vision) wasn't all that so I decided to go into the main menu and check the settings to see if there was anything there that I might be able to improve the quality with, in Display I checked the resolution, there were two options and thought I would try the second option and change it back if nothing altered.

I hit save the box beeped the screen flashed off and on, nothing had changed the quality hadn't changed however the curser had gone, without a curser I cant get into the menu to change it back or for that matter check recordings or anything else, I powered off and back on, still the same, opened the box removed the battery to reset the CMOS, still the same.

I have tried the remote which will change the view to each camera or 4 cameras on screen but when I hit the Menu button it stops all other functions until I hit esc then I can change views but still no menu I even plugged in a keyboard which will reboot the unit when I hit CTRL/ALT/DEL so there is functionality with remote mouse and keyboard but no curser and no menu.

Does anyone have a clue how to reset these things to factory default or re install the firmware without going through the menu

If you can't figure out a factory reset can you get it to perform a firmware upgrade?

Also look inside for any jumper pins, these may allow you to reset to factory default.

Cant perform a firmware upgrade without some way of getting at the menu interface so it can go online for the upgrade, without the correct mouse function ie right click there is no menu.

I have looked all over the board for jumper pins, Zero, I've taken the battery out and gone all over it with a bent paper clip hoping to short the reset pins without any luck,

Just need someone with a bit of knowledge on this particular DVR to stumble over this post and I might have a chance

Thanks for the input though

You better check TV systems to make sure its match your camera. If its decent you could trying reload new firmware again. Sometimes if firmware is not complete upload it will becoming weird.

yes I have tried that too The distributor sent me a recovery file image.kernel but all that did was remove any video image I had on the screen.

I had 4 frames and I could move between the images on each frame with the remote or by double left clicking the mouse button but now I get the splash boot screen like before but no beep then blank screen, I have been looking for another firmware file but so far haven't had any luck, they even sent me a link to D/L a CD of the item but I have no idea on what to do with it

Every thing was running ok until I changed the resolution in the menu, that's when I lost the the curser so I couldn't use the mouse to bring the menu up any more, then the supplier sent me the firmware to reinstall, I put it into the root of the usb drive plugged it into the back up usb port as instructed turned the unit on the splash screen came on and about 5 min later the unit started to beep as I was told it would I turned it off, removed the usb drive and rebooted, the splash screen came up then the vertical multi colored bars flashed on as it did when the unit was working properly then the screen went blank and black instead of going beep and the 4 picture framed coming on screen.

I tried reloading the firmware dozens of times but it always ends up with a black screen and I don't know where I can get a new copy of the firmware for this unit, I asked the supplier to re send it as the previous one may have been corrupted in transit but they didn't

Hello,

You do not worry, you just down load at the root USB flash, then plug and searching upgrade at central management and to go.

Sorry I don't know what you mean, I cant download the firmware for this unit as I don't know where to find it I have searched the net and as I said I have already re-flashed the firmware and as a result have lost the picture all together and now have a black screen and I have asked the supplier to resend the firmware as the previous file may have been corrupted, and I have emailed the manufacturer in China and Taiwan and asked them for help but neither of them have bothered to reply

Thanks for your input, I will try that, I will have to go buy a BNC to AV cable, however I don't think that is the problem, even though I changed the resolution it should have been able to be changed back via the DVR menu which shouldn't have disappeared just because I changed the resolution, the fact that it isn't available now seems to indicate that its a software fault, however now that I have flashed the firmware with the DIF.kernel that they sent me nothing works anymore so connecting with a BNC to AV cable still wont give me an image on screen as the soft ware in the DVR is no longer operational just a blank screen, had I tried this idea before flashing the firmware it may have worked but now I don't think it will as there is no image.

What I need is a new copy of the firmware for this DVR

Hello Don't you have post a link for download firmware isn't it? I mean you just reload to DVR then to check how is it? And you better check does it has been altered at camera color setting/video setting in DVR manual. I.e. Brightness, sharpness, HUE, saturation and contrast. You may try to adjust for is there anything change.

Joseph I do not have a menu so I cant check for ''color setting/video setting in DVR manual. I.e. Brightness, sharpness, HUE, saturation and contrast. You may try to adjust for is there anything change". I have a blank ( black) screen now so I cant do any sort of adjustments, the supplier sent another copy of the firmware which I tried to flash again but it still is no good.

My only option now is to send the DVR back and get a replacement.

Thanks for your input

Seems to me you saved a little money and bought yourself a load of aggravation.

Sorry to learn you are having this frustration. Firmware updates are best done via

a crossover cable from a PC or through a USB stick. If you can get a copy of the firmware

it will often allow you to reset everything to default factory settings.

Some manufacturers will ask you fro the unit ESN nd start date and possible some other info

then send you a reset code generated from that together with a utility to scan for the dvr over a

crossover cable. This is a nice clean way of doing things. Lets hope thats the built in method.

Hi I have already tried to reset the DVR to factory default with two copies of the firmware on a USB stick, all the first try did was render the four framed video image I did have to a blank screen, I asked the supplier to send me another copy in case the first one was corrupt but that didn't work either.

Yes it has been a lot of aggravation and frustration, the damned thing worked great until I changed the resolution then everything went pear shaped
