CCTV playback skips + cameras stop and start recording auto

CCTV Playback skipping

Hi,

I have recently bought a cctv system from ebay. Its a china made with 8 channels and I have connected 5 cameras with it. The problems I am having are two.

Firstly, on playing back any recording the dvr freezes for a while and skips that part(few minutes) and jump to the recording after that and kind of keep repeating the same after intervals and I I have noticed that sometime it works smooth. However if I save the recording on external storage then it plays back absolutely fine. Is there any thing wrong with the DVR?

Secondly, on times my cameras stop recording as well. Not all but one or two for about an hour to two and then starts recording again by themselves but one camera does that all the time and records till 6 in morning and the stops recording till 15 or 16 clock and the start recording again.

There are no recording timings set and they are on continuous recording mode. I have reset all the settings on Dvr few times and no difference.

Spoke with the guy i bought it from and he suggested to upgrade the firmware but he don't know where to get the firmware as there is no website given by manufacturer.

I am a newbie and your help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Well have you at least searched for a website? If not able to update the firmware and I doubt thats the issue frankly, then you should look at the HDD, Som HDD weren't designed to work with DVRs and while the mmajority of HDD work well some do not. Try a Western Digital Purple drive. I have upgraded several DVRs with this issue (not as severe I have to admit) and using WD purple drives has always greatly improved the recording issue.

WD Purple are specifically designed to work withing CCTV recording devices. DVRs and NVRs

You should also look at the bitrate on each channel and if necessary cap the bitrates too.
