CCTV web app crashing.

Recommended Posts

First of all, HI! (first post )

Let me describe you the mess I have been dropped into

Recently the main IT guy from a company that I work for decided to disappear, leaving everything in a big mess.

My boss decided that I am competent enough to take over ...and so I did.

I managed to take control and sort out the IT department ...except CCTV

We have two DVR units.

One is - 16 channel AlienPro Lite (that's what's on the box) and the second one, I have no idea. All I know it's some kind of Hikvision setup (8 channels).

I've been asked to install 4 monitors in different parts of my company building so they can display one of those two DVRs.

Needles to say, as cheap as possible.

Due to costs and the layout of the building I had to be very creative.

I decided to go with Raspberry Pi.

My plan was to install Pi next to each of those 4 monitors and just use them to log in into a web based DVR stream.

First problem was the fact that all those web apps require an ActiveX or Windows in general to run.

I tried to emulate IE but it would not work.

Next step was to get a Microsoft Server to work as a "mother unit" and all the Raspberries could just remote in and use Windows to log in.

That worked out surprisingly well. Te quality is a bit "meh" but for that purpose it is good enough.

Unfortunately they would crash after 30-40 minutes.

I tried different browsers but that makes no difference. They just crash after a while.

At first I thought that it's the Raspberry Pi fault, but even on "mother unit" it would eventually crash.

As I mentioned before, I'm not to savvy wen it comes to CCTV and I just don't know what to do

Any help and tips from more experienced users will be much appreciated!

This is the error I'm getting (assuming that is useful in any way)

If its just the video picture you want without menu control etc you could just link each dvr monitor output into a 4way amp or media converter and send it over to each monitoring position and cut out the problematic Pi solution.

I am sure there are hdmi and vga amps out there and video to Ip codecs which can provide multiple streams across Ip for whichever way you choose.

If it crashes try to use the software that the DVR comes with.

But then again those software are for windows and mac...you can put them on your windows mother server though?

Software for Hikvision is called ivms 4200

Actually judging from the GUI in the Alienpro lite user manual :

http://www.systemq.com/PDG_Commerce/TeleSales/Files/Discontinued/xAlien404.pdf

it looks like an Old hikvision DVR....

so ivms4200 should work for both of them and you can show both DVR on one software in theory.

Here's where you download ivms 4200 if you want to try it.

http://www.hikvision.com/en/download_more.asp?id=1388

But anyways they sell HDMI and VGA splitters which is what people generally use when they need multiple monitors...

That worked like a charm with the Alienpro but the other DVR does not want to connect.

It will do for the moment.

I will look into the HDMI and VGA splitters.

Big thanks for all the help!
