External HD & DVR

Recommended Posts

I have a QVIS 16 Channel Zeus Apollo 2TB DVR, ever since I have had it ,it has concerned me that if I had a break-in & they stole my DVR any recording of the thief would be gone, I was looking to buy a Seagate Expansion 2 TB,External HD or a Western Digital My Book 2TB HD & plug these into a USB & hide the external drive away from the DVR, alternatively could I take the HD out of the machine, put it in a HD case & plug that into a USB & hide that away.

Does any of this sound possible, Any advice would be appreciated.

Most commercial external hard drives contain regular hard drives that are not rated for continuous duty 247.

Also, some external hard drives are not adequately ventilated for heat dissipation.

USB Cabling Limitation (without repeaters)

USB 2.0 cabling max = 5.0m (16.4 feet)

USB 3.0 cabling max = 3.0m (9.8 feet)

Check the manual for DVR, since most units do not allow recording on the external USB HD. The USB port is usually only for backups, but not for direct recording of the video feeds.
